I went Wednesday and place was empty. Been going there quite a while after my boss informed me of the quarry. I've only had problems with yuppie motorcycle people in there. The dead truck is never the in the same spot and some ding bat set it in fire. I picked up my trash and then some junk laying around was more than I could deal with myself a friend and or boys. What I found odd was there were several groups shooting on camp 9 road. Not in the quarry just up a ways just off the road. I came around the corner and one person was shooting in the road. I'm not cool with that. I take my little red wagon to where I'm well off the road in the quarry.

The only motorcycle people I have seen back there have been dirt bike riders. They seemed okay to me. Someone told me a few weeks ago he saw one of them hit a piece of rebar sticking out of the ground and do an endo.

The only D-bags I have encountered were a few of the kayakers going down to the river. Grade A prima donnas - most likely snobs from the Bay Area.

The truck is always getting moved around. Last time I was out there a couple of weeks ago it was upside down.

I have hauled off some wood debris left by other shooters and threw it on a burn pile on my property, but overall the junk at the quarry is getting worse.

Apparently a couple of the local ranchers have been appealing to the county and the owner (Lehigh) to get the area shut down and fenced off again.

Just wanted to update this thread as I went down to shoot in the quarry with a few buddies today. As we were wrapping up our session we encountered a couple Calaveras Sheriffs who proceeded to tell us that the entire quarry, old silo site included, was private property. The owner used to allow people to shoot but ever since his cattle started to get hit plus the constant trash, he decided enough was enough. He threw up a bunch of private property signs but apparently people knocked them over, so we didn't see them by the quarry. There are a bunch coming down the hill but we thought they were for individual paths branching out. They said that shooting anywhere before you see the signs was good to go but not after you encounter them. They were also super friendly but had to write us and another group up for trespassing, apologizing constantly about it as they understood we were just trying to shoot (they said they used to shoot there too). So if anyone is looking to shoot here moving forward, pull off and shoot somewhere before you see the signs or shoot in the quarry at your own risk.

I haven't been out there since late November. I did not see any signs then. Too bad. Another good shooting spot gone. Understandable, because it was really trashed.

From what my buddy said, that land is owned by Heidelberg Concrete. I'm pretty sure I have met the rancher you are talking about, too. His cattle are all over the place, and losing even one because of some careless douchebags is one too many. Nice guy, but ticked off at the mess down there, and I'll bet doubly ticked at losing cattle.

I wonder if they closed off the area to the north of the road where the 3 big water tanks used to be.

Yep Iím sure enough was enough for him. The sheriffs said that part was private property also, sadly.
