Yep, sounds like him. He taught me tons! I still use the old ammo crate shooting rest he gave me. His departure permanently ruined baking for me.

Ran into him at the Idaho State Lever-gun Silhouette Championships, August 3rd. He lives in or around Star, ID, so not close to Idaho Falls.

Back to the tread topic - I left Northern Cal for Star, ID last March. Looking for a dove and duck hunting partner, so if you're in the Boise area and want to get together, drop me a line. I am planning on going up to the Montour WMA for the dove opener this weekend, and would welcome some company.

Awsome!
Question: If you are looking to purchase a used firearm from a private individual in your new state, do you even really need any form of ID?

No but they are adopting dealer transfer of private sales later this year. A couple counties have a 3 day wait for handgun purchase - first time then cash & carry after you get your blue card.

Which state do you live in??? Might be helpful to put your state location on each thread.

Moved to Texas in late 2015 from Chico. Some there may remember me when I had my FFL--H&K Enterprises. Have attached a photo of my first AR build here. Yeah, when the dust cover opens, it reads "PLAN B".

I was going to write that this was my first build in a free state, then realized that isn't true. My first build was in what used to be California in 1993. Things were different then.

Hey Harry. I bought my first off list lower from you. Glad to see you escaped too.

I’m up in Moscow, Idaho. Moved in 2015. College town up in the southern end of the panhandle. Even though there are liberal millennials and hippies there are plenty of conservatives in town (50/50) but everyone has at least one gun. Hunting is huge and nobody flinches at open carry. Get outside of town and it’s 99% red state. We love it up here.

Thanks for the kind words. Huntington's indeed. Loved working there. So much history, all the stuff I read about in my youth. Bought my first RCBS stuff while I was still stationed in (the former) West Germany in '76. Had it sent to my dad's house. Am also very grateful to have known Buzz and Fred Jr.

Glad to hear you made it out. Speaking of off list, I still have an Essential Arms lower, have had it since '93 or so. Kept it as a spare because by some fluke, it never showed up on any of ban lists. Now I just keep it as a reminder.

BTW, my name is Hank.

Moved to the rural parts of the Pacific Northwest in 2014 due to increasing dissatisfaction with the stranglehold the Democrats have put on everyday life in my home state of California. Life is much more satisfying now. Crime is very low, the threat of violence almost non existent. No more gangs, graffiti and trash everywhere. I can still surf and ski on the same day in uncrowded conditions.

Leaving California was not an easy decision to make but once we decided to join the growing exodus, it became apparent the it was the best decision we could have ever made. If California would go hard on crime, crack down on illegal aliens and cut all the grotesque regulations that stifle everyday life, we might come back but I am convinced conditions in California will continue to deteriorate before any improvements come.

It is amazing to me how many people are leaving California because they are fed up with the deteriorating quality of life under majority Democrat Party rule. California is still a beautiful place with many wonderful and very hard working people but the negative impact on daily life due to the leftists in power has become too much to bear leading more and more people to leave the once great State of California.

When I come to visit friends in my old hometown, they all confide in me their growing alarm at the deterioration in quality of life. Many are making plans to get out at some point. Some feel stuck and unable to leave for a variety of reasons but it is interesting how nearly everyone is talking about the decline that surrounds them and all are eager to hear from me what it's like living in a free state.

Wife and I are in the initial stages of moving to Oklahoma. I've got family there so it's not like we're completely alone, also have an aunt who drives up regularly from Louisiana to visit said Oklahoma family. While some current "fleeing" expats seem to be patting themselves on the back for hitting free state territory in Nevada and the PNW, those states are seemingly in danger of contracting the California Common Sense Abatement Syndrome. Nope, we're headed to where there's a better firewall. it is a little worrisome though that the state to the south of Oklahoma can't even get constitutional carry passed all while being held out as the preeminent state for RKBA. Probably why we were told by folks in Oklahoma, "Welcome! Unless you're from Texas....then get the hell out." We thought it was strange too.....

Nevada.... maybe not far enough, but I need to rake it in as much as possible in CA before calling it quits. Not ruling out going farther away after the big "R".

Central Florida, as of two and a half years ago. I felt like a Jew fleeing Nazi Germany ca 1933. I was California born and raised, but now living in exile - and I have ZERO plans of ever setting foot in that state again.

Celebrating 5 years in North Texas this month, about a 1/2 hour out of Fort Worth. Left Modesto after living in the northern San Joaquin Valley almost 40 years.

Bought house in Vegas 01/2018. Bought bed and safe day after closing.
March got DL (Real!), registered to vote and titled/registered 2 cars. June bought Sig P226 TACOPS and Gemtech gun muffler. March of this year got the muffler. October bought FN509. January bought Gemtech muffler for it. Hopefully will have it by Halloween. March this year bought Mossberg Shockwave shotgun.

June this year sold CA house and bugged out on a Saturday.

Boise, Idaho area as of November 2018. Semi-retired and a)hated the politics, b)hated the traffic, c)hated the taxes, d)hated the gun laws and e)did I say that I hated the politics. Wife and I left family behind and our opportunities to shoot Steel Challenge are "different", but the area is beautiful and life is a bit slower. People are very friendly despite the fact that the area is increasingly infested with Californians.

Showed up at the DMV last week to pick up my Enhanced CCW license. The wait for a DL was 186 minutes; the wait for a CCW request was 1 minute! Definitely a gun friendly state (Canyon County BTW). Received physical license in the mail about 10 days later.

Sagle, Idaho. Bought our place back in 2013, and made the move for good in 2016.

Life is good here.

Born, raised, and lived in Northern California almost all my life. Had a successful IT business with employees. Wife was a hospice nurse. We just got sick of all the California crap and me working to support the state. Pulled the plug in the summer of 2016 and built a house in the Caldwell area and we retired early. First time I think I was ever ahead of the curve...

We have NO regrets. We were accepted warmly and love it here. The first several months I went nuts buying all the guns I couldn’t own in California then realized they weren’t going anywhere. I shot a season of single stack USPSA and met some really great folks.

None is required by either Idaho or federal law, unless I'm buying a C&R. At that point, I need to briefly see an id for bound book info.

Just found this part of Calguns...a great idea.

I'll try to do my best with the "No mocking, insulting or taunting your fellow members who live in California" part.

We left CA in 1986 and moved to Flower Mound, TX. FM is equidistant to Dallas and Fort Worth and about 10 miles or so north of a line drawn between them. Stayed there about 15 years, leased our house on the CA coast to 3 sets of tenants with no problems. Moved back in 2000 with a plan to live there 2 years for tax reasons and then move to Idaho.

Sold that house in CA and did the move 2 years and 11 days after moving back.

Got to Idaho in June of 2002. Wife got a job with the Red Cross in Boise, and then worked for the Idaho Senate and retired this year after 11 years.

Lack of RKBA in California was down the list as reasons for moving.

Your governor was interviewed on Fox News. Very impressive woman and a 2A supporter. You're in good hands.

West of Star and North of Caldwell.
Been here for 2 and 3/4 years. We all love it and I will never move back while alive and instructed the wife to not be buried in my ex home state. I don't want to be voting democrat forever after.

We are headed to Utah in 3 weeks.
I couldn’t be happier, and am planning on celebrating by getting my CCW permit, and a 2-stamp rifle.

Benn in Precott for over a year now and love it. People are friendly, crime is very low (the last crime wave was 4 car break ins over a 2 week period and the Police were very concerned), gas is ~$1 cheaper per gallon and we get ~20% better mileage. Life is much better outside the Gulag.

Interesting thing is the neighborhood is predominantly Cal expats and when someone new moves in, the first question asked is are they conservative? The feeling is we are going to ensure this does not turn into Cal and it is great to hear things like that.
