All the flyer says is "REGISTRATION: MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO SoCal Youth Skeet. " and then "NSSA RULES APPLY : Just play by the rules!!!"

Doesn't sound like a registered event.

LA Clays website says they don't rent shotguns due to COVID, so I have to figure out how to fly with my shotguns from Houston, but I'm thinking to shoot 20GA (and possibly 12GA too) on Saturday. Which time y'all shoot? Y'all put some red suspenders on for Don??

Jun, Squads and times have not yet been determined.

I emailed Tina (email address is in the event flyer, linked to above) to register.

Squads and times will be posted when we get closer to the event.

PS: I'm shooting the 12 & 28ga events with Richard, at least that's the plan...

I concur. 12GA and 20GA are not so different. Nick, go for 28GA or even 410.

I read the flyer again. Is the fee $70? 12GA and 20GA => $140?

Or get Briley Sidekicks in 28 gauge and have at it. Just make sure to pattern them first to determine your chokes. My 20 gauge sidekicks must be choked 2 sizes down to achieve the desired pattern. So if I want skeet I choke to light modified. Or if I want IC I choke to Mod.

I wish they made .410 Sidekicks to fit a 28ga, I'd buy a set. .410 Sidekicks in a 12ga, I'd need extra full chokes

Have you guys received a reply from Tina or John to confirm your spot? I emailed them on last Thursday and I haven't received their reply yet.

Has anyone received any squad/flight time information yet?

The event is a week away, I've heard nothing.

Gents, I told Tina that I had to cancel my trip a few weeks ago. This was before the squadding was published. Hope someone takes some pictures. I miss Don.

Well, the shoot is in the books now.
I hadn't shot any Skeet in about a year and I had never shot either of the guns I used for Skeet before. While I didn't shoot well, I did have a lot of fun.
For the 12ga event yesterday we got to shoot on field 10, the field where Don held most of his clinics. I got to shoot with friends I met thru those clinics, it was a good day, full of good memories.
Today I shot the 28ga event, I did this because that was Don's favorite. I again didn't shoot well, not fitting of Don's legacy, but I did have fun.

I want to thank Don and Richard for all they gave to these clinics. Two outstanding men, one of which I will remember fondly, the other, I hope to be able to call him a friend for life.

Thanks Don
Thanks Richard

The morning was hazy and cool for shooting 12 ga. That round was very nice. I could feel Coach Don looking down at us(with a smile or a frown, could be either as some of us need more coaching). At one point one of us said that we kept listening for "PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER".

The grass was green but not nearly as well trimmed as Triple B. We had an abnormal amount of low house broken birds in the morning. Could be new employees harshly loading fragile clays into new machines. But the clays flew in the same perceived slow motion as I remember from the clinics and Sansei Shoots.

Afternoon shoot was 20 ga. I did just as well(bad) with 20 ga as I did earlier with 12 ga. Same score in fact(don't ask). I really did like that event. Talked my head off after the shoot and forgot my gun in the rack. Got notified later and picked it up Sunday.

Lunch was taco plates and pretty good. The lunch lady is a hoot. A little ditzy but runs a nice kitchen. Had burgers and fried fish earlier in the month and they were delish also.

So the parking lot is in nearly the same condition as it was as Triple B. I should have taken some pics of the restrooms. New paint, mirrors, and refinish on the floors. Was pleasantly surprised. What they did keep was the pleasant odor to remind me where I was.

Had a great time and miss my Coach Don. Pulled out his book last night and will read it again. He and Capt Dick(Richard) helped so many clay shooters and I am really thankful to have found the clinics. It was really nice that Capt Dick was there to support us and nice of him to make it out there. In fact it was really nice to see and talk with Capt Dick(Richard).

Thanks!
I shot poorly, best round was 22. Not sure how I won anything, but I did, 28ga

The 28ga was Don's favorite, if I was going to win anything, I'm glad it was 28ga.

Thanks shovelon for recap. I consider myself a student of Don and Richard. I was planning to bring Don's Remington Model 58 for the 12GA shoot before I had to cancel my trip.

Hope this shoot will be held next year, even as a private event.

Has LA Clays agreed to make a plaque to honor Don? Please let me know if a donation will help to make it happen. I saw someone else's plaque at a field (for Mike Ishikawa?).

I think Don deserves it for his contributions and dedications for his shooting records and coaching hundreds skeet shooters in Southern California.
