Do you know of anyone with production records on the various "Trapper" models, i.e. 1894, .30-30, 15 1/5" bbl, #923000?

"Unfortunately for all of the many collectors and interested people, all of the remaining pre-64 factory warehouse records (serial numbers 354,000 - 2,600,000+ were destroyed by burning them during the 1950s. Undoubtedly, all of the caliber, and the Rifle versus Carbine production number ratios would change drastically if the records were available for serial numbers 354,000 - 2,600,298. The Polishing Room Serialization Record Books (PRSRBs) which contain nothing more than just the serial number, fortunately survive up to serial number 1,352,066, which was manufactured on December 29th, 1945." |

Hey Trap,
Just joined the forum to ask about a Model 94, chambered in .30 W.C.F. with serial number: 900666 The rifle belonged to my great grandfather, grandfather, and uncle, who now just passed it on to me. Thanks! |

You're most welcome! Cool family heirloom. Did your GGF buy it new? An 1894 new in the 20's, was right around $40, that was a big chunk of change in those days.

Amazing that the rifle sold for about $40 new in the 20's, since he bought the 40 acres of (then empty) land for $40 in the 10's! |

Made first year, in 1905, with 9,176 made that year.
Made from 1905 to 1924, total production was 29,113. Rocky production history too, only 17 made between 1919 and 1924. Nine different years show production less than 10 made, 5 of those years show only one made. |

Both calibers. The 1907 total production to 1957 was 58,733, and production was just as rocky as the 1905. From 1942 to 1956, none were made. 8,633 were made in 1957 when production was dropped.
The Remington is what probably killed sales on the '05 and '07. |

Hey Trap!
Just ran across a model 1894, serial #910478 or maybe 910476. Stamped wagon being drawn by horses. Any ideas?

4/10/18 I tore up my left shoulder at work, just had surgery Jan/19. Yeah, worker comp a-holes weren't in any hurry. Pretty much no use of my left arm since then. "Almost" to full range of motion now, when I am, I can pass my DOT physical and get back to work. In July, I had an elderly lady blow a stop sign and drive her husbands new Beemer under my 4x4. It was just about ready to go into the paint shop and complete the restoration. I had to back it up off the top of her car, thank God she wasn't hurt, but the airbags slammed her pretty good. BMW totaled, truck is in the driveway waiting for me to put a bumper on it. Had some other health problems (gettin old sucks), then the PSU in my 15yr old P4 XP PC hiccuped and randomly took out data files on the HD. I got my kids old AMD Phenom 6 core, replaced everything in it ($hudda bought a new one) and just lately figuring out WTH all my passwords were. Made a lucky guess tonight for CG, so I think I'm back. Other than all that, I'm just peachy. |

Trap,
That's a helluva load on your plate, I hope it is a smoothing out now. I'm just across the creek here in Sac, I have a few Winchesters I'm curious about; M94 in .32 wspl 1740381 M1892 .25-20 439037 M71 .348 45739 M64 .30-30 1481004 Additionally a M24 in 20 ga without any ser.#, anyway to narrow down it's birthdate to a decade? Thanks in advance, Rusty Last edited by rusty goose; 05-04-2019 at 2:24 PM.. Reason: poor spelling on my part |

M1892 .25-20 439037 was made in 1908. M71 .348 45739 was made in 1956. M64 .30-30 1481004 was made in 1948. M24 "should have" the serial stamped on the bottom of the frame, about an inch forward of the trigger guard. If it's been sanded off from a refinish, the number can be revealed with a chemical process. Go to post #64 here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1338936 Winchester put a date code for the barrels on rifles, I'll have to dig out my 24 and see if they did the shotgun barrels too. They were made from 1938 to 1957, with a total of 116,280 produced. Polishing Room records are complete to the end of 1945. 1946 has no records, and 1949 though 1957 are missing too. Last one made in 1957 was serial # 116280. Only 5 were made in 1938. 1943 and 45 had 0 production. 1946 only had 230 made. |

Rusty, doubt I'll make the Reno Show, and Bert probably won't either. The last one I went to at the Convention Center was a shadow of what it use to be. The vendors I talked to did say the owners of the Grand Sierra fired the manager for killing their money maker, and there was talk they wanted to bring the show back there, but I haven't heard anymore on it.
Lou Fascio and Miwall ammo had a falling out last year, and Miwall hasn't been at his shows since. The Fall Show use to be the one for Winchester collectors. The Tulsa,OK show is the big one now. If you need to sell them, I can hook you up with someone on GB that specializes in selling collections, very reputable. If interested, PM me for details. BTW...nothing on my Mod 24 barrels. |

Oh man, sorry to hear all that. It is painful to watch the tides turn here on what you to be a great tradition. I may try locally at first, but may need to hit you up on your offer. I have several guns that I need to move, perhaps this forum is the best advertisement.
The little model 24 is like new, but I can't find any numbers stamped on the receiver. The barrel carries the usual stampings, but no date. Rusty |

Trap55 do you have a year for a Win model 100 carbine, serial A224322. I believe it was made around '69. TIA

That would have been a fairly expensive purchase back then. I show it selling for $58 in 1922. About that time, my grandfather use to plow fields from sunup to sundown for $1 a day!
Couple of historical facts, it served in WWI with the French, and used to kill Bonnie and Clyde. |
