First Time I Missed CA Since Moving...
All of my family still lives in CA so obviously I've missed them since moving to WY, but I haven't missed the state itself until yesterday.
We got 13" of snow and I had to shovel my way to my car (on street parking) and spend damned near 20 minutes diggin my SUV out of the snow... Then had to drive to work on unplowed roads, got all the way to work and then got an automated message from my employer saying we were shutting down operations for the day due to the weather! So I had to drive all the way back in the same conditions. In that moment when I was driving back home, I thought, "I miss California." IB "cool story bro"

OHHHH REEEEAAAAALLLLY! Pretty sure we could have told you about that "little issue". Look at the bright side, April is just 6 short months away! Happy shoveling. (lol teasing)
In all seriousness, it is rather tough to beat CA. weather. |

I beg to differ. Freedom and better quality of life trump California weather every time. (Unless you are a pansy girly man....)

I wish I could find the original of this (help me out here, internet wizards), here goes from memory, it's a little long but funny.
Letters to a relative in CA: September We've arrived at our new home in WY, we're so glad to have left CA behind. We are up here in the mountains, the air is fresh and clean with a hint of chill to it. It's beautiful and we are so happy to be here. October: We've mostly finished moving in but still have some changes to the house to make. The forest right behind us is full of life, there are animals large and small, we saw a deer in our backyard yesterday. The deer are beautiful, peaceful creatures who are certainly one of God's blessings. The house's old heater wouldn't light so we had a few chilly nights until we got it fixed. We are so happy to be here. November A herd of deer seems to have settled in our area and we see them all the time now...it's so wonderful to be close to nature like this. The deer have eaten all my wife's flowers and plants though. We had a short storm a couple days ago and it's colder these days. There is a light sprinkling of snow on the ground, the sparkling texture is like some sort of fantasy world. We're so happy to be here in this beautiful place. December There's been light snow falling for a few weeks now. The snow is beautiful but it is starting to pile up. I had to shovel snow off the driveway to get my Jeep out to drive to work the last few mornings. Yesterday, just as I was backing out of my driveway, a snow plow went by. He's clearing the roads which is a good thing. But I had to shovel away the mound of snow that he pushed into my driveway as he went by before I could leave for work. The deer are everywhere, it is like a Christmas card picture, so beautiful. We are so happy to be here. January I have to get up an hour earlier every workday so I have time to shovel snow off my driveway. That snow plow driver has pushed snow into my driveway about ten times now. If I can catch him, I will kill him. February I've been grateful for my Jeep because it handles the snowy roads very well. Two nights ago on the way home from work a deer jumped out in front of me and totaled my Jeep. F'in deer! They should kill every last one of them! March The snow is starting to melt. We're packing everything up for the move back to CA.

I've lived in Pittsburgh for 17 years, and NEVER shoveled a FLAKE of snow in all this time.
MAINLY because... I'm 10 generations from NC - where we do NOT shovel snow. Now we'll watch the snow, play in the snow, and if we run out of milk and T-P before the snow melts, we'll CUSS the snow... but we do NOT, "shovel snow." My wife sez, "Well we've GOT to shovel our sidewalks, or someone will get hurt!!!" Oh yeah? People fell in the snow & got hurt in NC; we'd yell out the window - "HEY DUMMY! GUESS YOU SHOULDA STAYED HOME!!!" Local boro regs require snow removal from your sidewalks, 4 hours after the snow stops. Pffft... Where are you snowflakes from? PITTSBURGH?! or, "Wusslyvania?" I didn't buy a Jeep Commander and Dodge Ramcharger, to SHOVEL snow; I CRUSH snow... in 4x4's! Besides, it's GOD'S snow - and who am I, to question the Will of GOD?! HE put it there - clearly it's part of HIS divine plan, that snow BE here at THIS time. Besides which - if HE wants His snow gone, I can guarantee, it'll ALL be gone, by Memorial Day. My wife is from nw NE - she has three Olympic gold medals in snow shoveling. I let her take care of it.

At least all that snow is keeping California snowflakes from coming.
We are overrun by Dem-voting Californians over here in NV. .

Flag got hit with 3 feet of snow. I'll do the 2 hour drive, let my kid do some sledding, then come back down and enjoy the nice weather. Snow is not horrible if you don't have to live in it.

You guys finally got a good amount of snow over there. Haha I live in Saratoga, the last snow storm didn't give us that much but they did shut down the highway to I80 and I80 till midnight. Suppose to snow till Sunday, we shall see. This your first time experiencing a winter?

Think positive OP. Wyoming is never gonna run out of water. California, Nevada, and Arizona are. And we will probably see it in our lifetime.

In all seriousness, it's rather stupid to think you cannot beat other places in which to raise a family. (rotf, and not teasing)

If you have to shovel your driveway because your car can't make it out of the driveway; you probably shouldn't be driving that car on the streets.
Or buy a more appropriate vehicle for your climate. Quote:

If you want to look on the bright side of dealing with shoveling snow ...
after a few winters of that, and I've been there trust me, whenever other people complain about the simple rain storms and getting wet, in your mind you can just think (and I normally respond with) "it's better than snow". |

Also if you don't shovel the snow it turns to ice and now you have the possibility of a slip and fall which could be a liability on your property but also cause serious harm to one of my kiddos. It's always best to shovel. |

Before and afterwards - Luckily it was not a 3 feet in diameter Redwood tree! At least the snow here melts away within a few days, unlike in Detroit where it stays for weeks/ months at a time with below freezing temps.
