Post What do I need to install wireless access?

At church, we have a wing of the campus with no wireless access. However, we do have a CAT5 cable to a computer there that has connectivity to the internet. My question is what device do I need in order to get wireless access in the area? A wireless access point, a wireless router or something else?

This would not be for streaming video but just to allow iPhones, tablets and laptops to study Bibles, articles and such. I need something that requires a password to connect to our network and we only need to connect dozens of devices, not hundreds or thousands.

Whould either of these work, or do I need something else?

NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band Wireless Access Point

TP-Link AC1750 Smart WiFi Router – Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Internet Router

If the CAT 5 delivering the internet access is connected to a network with a router installed already, you can use a wireless access point. No need for another router.

That access point would work fine and also allow you to connect the PC CAT-5 cable to it to restore wired access for the PC. You might consider a MIMO access point though if you will have 12 - 24+ people accessing it simultaneously.

And don't be afraid to buy a router version if you find the price, brand, or features you want in one. You can simply use the LAN side of it only and ignore the WAN side. It will work exactly like the access point.

If you don't feel like making your own cables..i.e. crimping the ends.
Monoprice has long premade cables. You can just stuff the extra cable in a ceiling space

100 foot cable is 13$. Cable to cable connector just a couple of bucks.

Just remember your max is about 325feet.

If you have cat 5, consider pulling modern wire to work with modern ISP bandwidth

You might turn on tracking in the router to see what sites are being frequented.
