Default Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack

I saw a good deal on an OD green Versipack man purse and bought it on a whim. It arrived last night and it's great quality but the jury is still out on it for me. I initially wanted to use it as an EDC bag for my office job, but have some reservations.
  • Does it look too "military" for a semi casual office environment?
  • does it look stupid?
  • I would love to expand the capacity a bit. What options do I have?
  • if nothing else, it will be a good day pack for ccw/shooting/outdoors

It depends on your office and the people who occupy it.

You bought it on a 'whim.' Do you think it looks "stupid?" If yes, then why ask? If no, then who cares?

It depends on what you mean by "a bit." You've got a little bit of MOLLE webbing which will enable the attachment of a small pouch. Otherwise, there's not really much you can 'add' in terms of expanding the capacity.

If it fits your needs on that score, good enough. Personally, however, were I wanting it for 'outdoor use,' I'd prefer a water bottle pouch or the ability to add one. (You can carry a Nalgene canteen/bottle and canteen cup in the main compartment; but, that limits most of the rest of your contents primarily to the smaller pouches.) In addition, I don't like having by concealed carry firearm in a 'bag' that can be and often is placed... somewhere... meaning I don't have direct control of the firearm in the manner I do when carried "on my body." But, conceivably, it could work as a small 'range bag.'

Here are an old and a relatively new video on the bag which might provide you with some ideas...

I've had one for years and found it uncomfortable on the trail and I feel a bit goofy carrying it.

Like new condition, always garaged, khaki color, I'll let it go cheap OP if you want another one to wear with a different outfit.

I use a Remora sometimes when traveling usually. Maxpedition makes great products, but they're not inconspicuous.

They do have some newer designs that look more casual like the Wolfspur or Veldspar slingbags that aren't as "tactical" looking. They area little bigger so could be used more for business and carry stuff stuff instead of a briefcase or messenger style bag.

Personally, I think it fills a gap that doesn't need filling. Too small for any outdoor use where water/supplies are needed and I would never choose a single shoulder sling for that use. Too big for use as a daily murse.

Like that first video suggested, would be a decent AV bag if you're into that kind of thing.

It's a tactical purse. That being said I'd buy one for when I go fishing.

I’ve got mine set up as a bug out bag. It lives in my truck. I intended to use it while hunting, but it just didn’t work out for me.

Buy a proper backpack for day-to-day use and setup the versipack to hold stuff for HD.

It somehow manages to look too girly and too military, all at the same time.

Any bag regardless of type, style, color, molle straps, whatever - if it has a single shoulder strap I will always think it is a purse.

I have the "jumbo" version that works extremely well as a way to carry a DSLR, a spare battery, and a couple of lenses.

I carry one everyday. For the last 5-6 years, it's been a part of my everyday life. It is perfect for my EDC, and I hate backpacks for EDC. Besides a wallet and cellphone, I have quarters and dimes, a Fenix flashlight, spare 123 batts, a Benchmade Griptilian, a Swiss Army Climber, a Leatherman Charge Ti, an REI monocular, a ballpoint pen, a Sharpie, earbuds. Also an LCP w/ spare mag as a BUG. Also room for anything else depending on day.

I don't use it for air travel or hiking. I will use a small backpack for those instances.

Damon is wrong about expansion.

1. I just picked up this team leader pouch and really like it. It should fit on the side pouch: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOVH9PG

1b. or a dump pouch that can hold a nalgene/hydroflask/light jacket: https://smile.amazon.com/CONDOR-ROLL.../dp/B01M9GMPEU
1c. brand name dump pouch: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0013AXTFY

2. On the upper left, you should be able to add a grenade/compass pouch: https://smile.amazon.com/Eagle-Indus.../dp/B00JQU0EVU

2b. Small radio pouch: https://smile.amazon.com/Condor-HHR-.../dp/B00865O9CQ

3. On the strap, you can add this: https://smile.amazon.com/LIVIQILY-Ta.../dp/B07HFR4NM3

3b. or this and put your own pouches: https://smile.amazon.com/HAZARD-Delu.../dp/B00889AVOA

4. Sling extension w/pouch: https://smile.amazon.com/Maxpedition.../dp/B001EC3N2U

Or, you could just get a Camelback and use that. Doubtful even the most triggerable libtard would need a safe space after seeing a Camelback.

No problem, I've been using a mongo versipack since 2011 and that sucker is still going strong. No rips/tears.

I also have several jumbo versipacks that I turned into vehicle first aid kits.

Btw the team leader pouch maybe too wide. It looks like you have two columns of molle and that pouch needs 3 wide. Just run with the idea though. Perhaps small ifak/gsw kit in a rip away pouch?

I have a similar bag from them. It’s always been uncomfortable to wear. But I carry by the handle every day. I use it to carry a water bottle, papers (folded in half or small tablet paper). I also carry a ssd external hard drive. I did use it several times for CCW when heading into the AZ office.

I would go with a small backpack in the future.

If you're looking at Maxpedition you should at least look at Vanquest. I usually find their stuff is a little more well thought out than Maxpedition is. They all used to work together in the beginning but they had a falling out of some sort and split off to form Vanquest.

I have one of those packs. All of the criticisms posted here are valid, but I use it occasionally. My biggest issue is the fact that it screams “I have a gun!!”

But I have to give it props that can carry a full sized handgun with spare magazines, a good knife, car keys, wallet, multiple cell phones, and even a decent sized water bottle. It distributes the load well, and frees me from having bulky pockets or concerns of printing.

So, every time I think about using it, I am filled with conflict. Like Darth Vader on the unfinished Death Star hovering over Endor. I have Luke in one ear, and the Emperor in the other ear. Both are chipping at me and it is causing great consternation.

If you're gonna pack something like this around at least have stuff in it you can use.

Simple CamelBak day pack would be less conspicuous IMO. I do agree that the Maxpedition Versipack may give the idea you're carrying.

OP you mentioned office job...have you looked into Filson bags? Little bit more pricey than Maxpedition.
