I have one of those (Browning commemorative model made in 1986) and I have to agree with everything in the article - especially the part about recoil.

It is true that with the same bullet and just changing the powder charge, you can walk that bullet all over the target at 100 yards, picking out the accurate loads for both target and hunting. The target loads are tolerable, but oh my lord shooting those heavy loads with that thin curved metal butt plate is not fun. The rounds are accurate, but they do hurt as they leave on their way down range.

I have a Browning 86 first year also. A carbine butt stock on the rifle helps tame the recoil a BUNCH. Midwest still has them https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/PO70288
