Default Saiga AK muzzle brake

Looking to shoot my AK more in competitions. I realized the other day that I need a brake.

Seen videos of guys taking pipe cutters to the barrel shrouds of Saigas, and tapping the barrel, not touching the FPS. No gunsmith ive called in SoCal will do it this way. Everyone wants to take off the front post, but i argued that it is not necessary.

Anyway, I dont care if its the proper way or not... I want this done on my Saiga. Anyone out there in So Cal do it?

I won't do it that way, but after it's screwed up, I can shorten, thread, relocate the front sight and perm attach a muzzle device for you to get the gun serviceable again.
That's the fix after the threads go all crooked.

Get a Bulgarian AK-74 FSB and do a "front end conversion" using a AK-74 type brake... It's the best option and will increase the value of your rifle...

"Front end conversion" means removing the Saiga front sight base and gas block and replacing them with standard military pieces. That gives you the ability to use a standard AK-74 type muzzle brake and also gives you the bayonet / accessory lug on the bottom of the front sight base and gas block.

Usually Bulgarian AK-74 parts are used.

AR-15 barrels can do this for you... Or you can do it yourself...

As in the pic below.

Don't forget milling the handguard retainer notch or notches if the barrel does not have the side notches.

Besides the pressing and drilling, milling the notches is the part that stops many people from being able to do it themselves.

There are lots that use a rod in the barrel as a guide rod to cut the threads.

It’s not the perfect method but it is an AK - a fighting rifle- not a 1,000 yard gun

I want to say Carolina shooter supply use to rent the threading kit.
