It can’t be for metal as people carry keys, coins, phones, etc.

I wasn't carrying anything else except a laptop

Now I'm thinking how else I could've set it off, but I don't see any other way. I've never borrowed books from the LA library.

A lot of those detector's trigger off of RFID chips, so if you have a credit or debit card with one expect it to go off, especially with the older one's that are not quite as frequency sensitive as the newer ones in some retail stores.

Does your gun have RFID embedded somewhere from factory?

Sounds like it could've been some other stupid reason that it went off then, good news since I was planning on doing another library session today

Not that I know of, but now I'm going through my items to see if I had any RFID chips lying around..

I had an old work badge that used to set them off at stores.

I just keep waking. If the think I stole something they're going to have to find me in the parking lot.

Why did you go to the library? Are you doing a study on homeless tweakers?

My wife's bank has a metal detector that you walk through. It's actually called a CAU--controlled access unit. You walk in the first door, and if you set it off the metal dectector, the second door will not open, and you cannot proceed in. She buzzes me in all the time.
