Default Linux

Thinking about dumping w10 and installing Mint Cinn. My concerns are being able to get the drivers for my printers and such. Does linux have a good database for drivers? My laptop (Dell)is less then 1yr old.

Make a bootable flash drive with the Linux distro to test it. There are good tutorials out there; it's been a while since I did it. You could also make your existing hard drive dual boot, if you have enough space on it. I have done both --worked fine for me (Asus laptop). Linux Mint is my favorite.

What's the make/model of your printer?

You can check here: http://www.openprinting.org/printers

Yes, it should work. As mentioned, test with a Live CD first.

Of you try the live USB trial and do like it, you don't have to commit. Dual booting is always an option to have the best of both worlds.

Just an FYI...
You can run a VM of Windows on the Linux box, if you have issues.

How often do you really print, anyways?

I supported 1800 users via Pear Linux for about a year...

Unless you actually need all the specific settings for trays and such on your printer, or have some high end production machine that requires RIPs or color profiles and all that, even generic PCL or PS drivers should work just fine.

Maybe skip the mint 19 in beta form and wait until it's mature to try it.
Sonya is good and HP drivers are on board. Update to 19.2 when it's ready.
If you go Mint I suggest the MATE desktop + 64bit version. Solid and easy to use.

Many live distros can be booted to via USB/DVD, so you can try it out ahead of time, or just doink with...
