Bullet seated and crimped. No powder coating on these.

I used to shoot a cowboy match with a guy that loads his own 22mag with Hornady Vmax for the better BC.

I picked up a second 22LR bullet mold. Couldn’t resist the sale price and a 10% discount.

This mold is a little more of a pointed round nose bullet.

Default Loading and/or reloading 22 LR...

I loaded some 22 LR all with 1 grain of powder to start.

Powders tried...

Vectan AS

Trail Boss

Ramshot True Blue

Ramhot Silhouette

IMR Target

Alliant e3

***

These were all tried with 18 grain spire point bullets and smooth bore 2” barrel.

Accuracy was tested at 3 yards for a start. A rifled barrel will be tried next time.

I might be the first person ever to try Trail Boss in a 22 LR case...

1 grain of Trail Boss fills up the case nicely.

Vectan AS - OK powder

Trail Boss - Very Good, and accurate repeatable shots.

Ramshot True Blue - Very Good, and accurate repeatable shots.

Ramhot Silhouette - Very Good, and accurate repeatable shots.

IMR Target - OK powder

Alliant e3 - Very Good, and accurate repeatable shots.

Like I said these were shot in a smooth bore, next time I will try with a rifled pistol and rifle.

It is funny that Ramshot True Blue and Ramshot Silhouette are very close to VihtaVouri 3N37 powder on the powder speed chart. 3N37 is 22 LR powder that was used for factory loads.

My NOE mold for 22 LR finally came in. The package had been sitting on the kitchen table for about a week. I had to deal with a broken water main as a priority first.

Here is a picture of the new mold.

It is a 5 cavity mold, heeled bullet design, and should drop bullets at 38 grains each.

I don't even bother to buy it new! In the canyon near where I live, so many people drop live rounds on the ground, I have enough for a lifetime that I have picked up and inspected.
