How is the trigger/bolt timing?

You have to feel a rifle with tuned bolt and then feel yours again and then you would understand immediately. It's about synchronizing the travel of the cocking piece to the trigger so that the bolt closes as easily as possible. Stock parts always have tolerances built into them to guarantee they work and with those tolerances come extra travel that creates bumps.

I had Randall do it for me on my last build. It’s night and day smoother. |

Very easy. Just used a barrel vise and I got a rear entry action wrench. Torqued it on to 75 ft lbs. |

I’d consider a bit taller Rings.
While you can not “see” the item that reduces the light into your PST, it still will not be as bright. Of course you bought a chassis with NV rail, that doesn’t mean you’ll use NV; but it will not line up if you choose to do so. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Kriller134 I will post some pictures for you showing how a custom action gets timed. On a BAT Machine action they use a trigger hangar rather than putting the two crosspins through the actions body. The hangar is just the two crosspins and two socket head capscrews in a tiny piece of good aluminum. The two set screws positively locate the trigger hangar onto the action. The crosspins however can be set at a neutral setting or offset generally in 0.005 increments. The hangars are reversible as well giving you more options. Why do we do this? If your first build comes out perfectly from the factory with all of your tolerances exactly on the spot you are good to go. BUT If you do any work on the lug abutments the lugs or swap out the cocking piece you MAY have thrown off the timing. Likewise if you change out the trigger it can do the same thing. By having offset hangars you can tune it back to where you want it. I have no idea on how this is done on guns without a hangar so Randall will have to explain that. Oh yeah the normal disclaimer about my photo quality

Before that, I radius/polish the edges of the bolt that interact with the cocking piece.

Rifle build
Here’s a quick video of the difference between an action that has been and hasn’t been timed.
The action in the green stock has a Timney Trigger with Randall’s work done to it. The other is a new unfired action with a Trigger Tech Primary Trigger. You can see how smooth the first action is, vs the large bumps in the second action. https://flic.kr/p/2aH5Hno Last edited by NorCalFocus; 10-07-2018 at 11:24 AM.. |

So after watching the video that NorCal posted, and what Randall posted, there is a slight “bump” when closing the bolt if I go slow. If I run the bolt at a normal speed, I can’t feel it. Randall do you time custom actions or just Remington?

I can work on other types as well, but I have to look at how they work to determine how the safety works and if it cause a problem.

Just an update. I had some issues with the action and had to send it back to bighorn. They were great and fixed the issue and sent it back out within a day. I finally got to shoot it today and it’s a hammer. The barrel settled after about 40 rounds. I was shooting sig 140 match. This was the best 5 shot group.
