Default CCW Requalification

When and how often do I need to re-qualify at the range to retain my CCW? My CCW was issued on 4/5/21 for two .9mm handguns. If anyone can link to official guidance from the state or county levels, that would be appreciated, thanks.

If you are in Sacramento County, your reference page is: County Sheriff. The CCW permit is good for 2 years. You will have to requalify as part of the renewal process, along with a training class of at least 4 hours to meet the state requirements (unless they change in the interim).

The time to start renewals varies by counties. Many are now suggesting you start the renewal 6 months before your current permit expires. Check with your Sheriff as you get closer.

Pretty much every two years everywhere in CA. How can you hold a CCW permit and not know this, at least for your IA?

Did you look at the expiration date on your permit?

Why even bother carrying .9mm handguns? But then given the current ammo prices and availability just maybe.😁

Thanks for the quick response. I thought I had to periodically re-qualify at the range every few months even before the permit expires but apparently not.

While there is no requirement to qualify until renewal, you have to consider that this is a perishable skill. Your skills and abilities will be better retained by regular practice.

As already noted, ".9mm" ammo is going to be hard to find. Regular 9mm ammo (note, no leading decimal point) is rare enough. ".9mm" is about 0.035 inch.

That's a 'newspaper reporter error'; everything they remember is in caliber., which for small arms is equivalent to an inch - .38, .357, .45. (Naval guns also use caliber, in a completely different way!) so they mistakenly conclude all projectile nomenclature is preceded by that decimal point.

And if 50 cal is banned in California, do they have to move the USS Iowa to another state?

So far, CA has regulated .50 caliber BMG rifles,

30530.

(a) As used in this part, “.50 BMG rifle” means a center fire rifle that can fire a .50 BMG cartridge and is not already an assault weapon or a machinegun.
But the Iowa ought to find a less embarrassing place to live anyway.

He didn’t ask how long the permit was good for, he asked if he had to requal at the range. Different subject entirely.

The ignorance of gun/CCW laws by CCW holders is mind boggling!!!
You would think they would at least try to stay informed.

Same difference, they go hand in hand.
