Default WY deer tag.

My Wyoming deer tag just says "NR Deer" on it and the zone. I understand that means any species of deer, but does it mean that after a week if I don't have a buck then I can shoot a doe?

Depends what tag you have and what zone. Type 1? Type 3? Type 4-5 and so on. Some are antlered mule deer any whitetail.

NR = Non Resident deer. Look at the catagory you applied for. It does make a difference to the field officers. Any means doe or buck, again check the type you applied for. BUT, any mule deer or any whitetail does matter.

Not trying to be a smartazz, but have you tried calling WY fish and game? They will have the answer, and they have always been very courteous and helpful when I've called.

We applied for antlered deer and that was the draw. Just thought it was curious that gender isn't mentioned on the tag. We did apply for an additional antelope doe tag but we were unsuccessful at that.

"2020 WYOMING NR DEER" Region B General. No mention of sub-species or sex. It's my understanding that whitetails have become somewhat of a nuisance to landowners there so they don't care if you choose to shoot one of those instead. Our intention is an antlered muley of course, but you know how that goes, if you're six days deep into a seven day hunt then you start thinking differently.

Yeah I'll call DFG if I don't have a clear answer. Just thought it was worth jawing about while we wait for October.

It doesn’t say Type 1 or something?

Okay, it looks like region B is several hunt areas and the sex and species is dependent on which area you are in and what time... I'm kind of getting the idea here. Pretty sure we will be in area 13 so according to the DFG website...

Area 13 General - October 1-15 "Antlered mule deer or any white-tailed deer"

Area 13 General - October 16 to November 30 "Any white-tailed deer"

One a side note, we have been stopped a few times by Wyoming fish and game.

Some really quizzed us....

What fence line is the property line?
Whose ranch is over there?
Questions on species and other such questions.

Never could tell if he wanted to make sure we knew where we were hunting or if he needed an education.

The regs allow for a variety of bs tickets. Have a backup method for marking your tags and attaching tags

I hunted 23/26 if I recall correctly for 20 years outside of Midwest Edgerton

One of the guys I hunt with shot a doe there last year. The game warden saw it and came and asked him if he was familiar with the area. Dave being Dave shot his mouth off and bragged about how many times he had hunted there. The warden said "great, then you know Annie's fence is the border of the zone and the doe you shot was on private property in the adjacent zone...

He rewarded him with a $500 ticket, but let him keep the doe.

I've hunted with a thirty-ought-six all my life, and I'm not even close to being a millennial. However, I did buy 6.5 Creedmoor this spring just to play with. Does that make me a bad man?

I'll get it a couple weeks before the season.

Hahaha yep! I usually hunt with my .308 but after the .30-06 thread I thought I might just go ahead and take that instead. I actually bought a Weatherby Mark V in 300 WBY over the winter, but I haven't put glass on it yet and we're starting to get close to getting ready. My -06 Rem 700 is all sighted in and ready.

Get OnX now, subscription is good for 1 year. Get familiar using it before you go. Camofire has a single state on sale usually every 10 days or so for $17.99. Happens to be on sale today.

This is a good suggestion. I'd also consider Basemap. Its the same thing (slightly different features) for $29 a year for all the states. I use it because I am in 3-4 different states hunting every year.

There are often free Geo PDF maps for the public lands in Wyoming. You can download them to your phone and open them with the Avenza app. They work with your phone's GPS and don't need a data connection once download (IIRC).

I'll be hunting private land with well defined boundaries from my understanding guys. But I'll get OnX for sure, and yeah I'll get all the states. Got some AZ and TN stuff planned this year in addition to the WY trip.
