Tried a Lionsteel Gitano slipjoint... or locking slipjoint (Cran forcé). I would just call it a slipjoint, but the mechanism is pretty damn strong. With my EDC 0452CF for comparo. I like it and it has a clip so it really is a modern type slipjoint.

Nice one. I think there was one on Blade Forums a while back or somewhere... had to be there, but rarely seen.

Where did you score yours? I love those. I've had quite a few from newer runs. I had a Zombie Green coated one at one time, but now I have two or three of the polished LE's. Wicked blades.

Man, that ZT0452 really gets my juices flowing. I know it's not your latest purchase, but every time I see one, I wish I'd bought one when they were a current offering. The lines on that knife are just gorgeous. I have a couple folders with 4"+ blades (Spyderco Native Chief in CF with an S90V blade and a John Smith custom from his SD series. I love them on paper, but in EDC use, I find the giant blade cumbersome. That said, if walking through certain neighborhoods at night, I feel more comfortable with a long, slick blade.

That one is not as handy as something like a ZT0456 for cutting tape, but it really isn't bad and for a longer blade it is only about 4 ounces and balances right behind the pivot and flipper... I still want to find the Ti scale version. I had that thing forever and had a crazy rotation of all kinds of Spydercos and ZT's but now I just carry the 0452CF... it is a do it all folder. It does seize up shortly after it gets into salt water though and the original clip sucks.

I think it still is a current offering even though it is old. It stayed popular and in-production AFAIK and I think it is still in-stock at Blade HQ, Knife Center, DLT, EBAY dealers, SMKW, etc...

Easy to get the satin or black washed sprint run right now I think. Sprint run is on EBAY for about $250.

The handle is all wood past the pivot so you can whittle down considerably for custom shape following the blade profile and making it bit more svelt in the pocket and even lighter weight. Yeah, its REALLY light weight. I bet if I took some metal off the blade and left all the wood it would actually float.

And it's a flipper. Tom doesn't make a lot of flippers and that guy has three for sale.

That looks like a super functional working grade knife that I just don't have a current use for. Ergos look good. Love the lines. I'm sure it's tough as hell.

Congrats!

I saw that Midway had incredible good prices on Cold Steel SRK and Recon Tanto, plus free shipping... it was an easy decision. I've already had them out camping, and they're fantastic for chopping & splitting wood. These are the black finished blades, which scuff up nicely in use. The edges are not sushi knife sharp, but that's fine. They're going to see camping use more than anything else.

I picked up an SRK a while back and etched the logo with a 9-volt and salt water (wire rig with cotton swab, etch will go right through that metalic painted "SRK"), stripped the black paint, then stone washed it... they look pretty good like that if you wear off the coating and decide to go bare metal.

Technically, not on topic, but my 0452CF is like new now. I got one of those Work Sharp Precision sharpeners... watched a couple videos last night and ordered one. Didn't read instructions today, and it snapped together and sharpened the first knife pretty effortlessly. I like it more than my Lansky Masters Edge sticks already, and probably my Work Sharp belt sharpener for most knives.

At $50 it cost about the same as the Lansky sticks cost now.

Nice pick up! I saw Zacinthewild (former blade HQ) make a video on it, made me really want one. Seems like a good investment.

It really does work and fast. The design is pretty compact and it only takes a few pases on each side if the knife is not hammered. I need to work on getting the tip of the blade perfectly sharp. Near the tip seems duller than the rest of the blade. Other than that it sharpens more uniformly all along the blade than other systems I have used, but I have never tried a set angle sharpener like this. I do not count Croc Stix or Master's Edge because that is still free hand even though the sticks go into set angled holes.

I haven't bought one in a million years, but they used to be Big5 specials... where they were huge and overweight steel framed liner locks with fairly soft blade steel, nylon washers or bushings... with everyone using bearings now, maybe the builds have improved. I still have one or two huge "tactical" folders an old model Tanto Border Guard... they are like boat anchors and always had blade wobble compared to something like a Ti framelock with CF scale. They do cut.

https://store.smith-wesson.com/tactical/knives/folding/

Looking over the designs, it seems the old Border guard Tanto is the same still... looking at that one gives me blurry vision... how many fullers does a folder need? Hahah. The granulate inlay is very grippy on that one though. Otherwise I hate it - and I own that one.

This is a WWII Randall "Commando" model fighting Knife.
I bought it because I liked the design, it turned out to be quite a rare one.

That Randall looks sweet!

My latest is at the other end of the spectrum. It's a PDW SPD STS-B Bolster lock folder with Ti frame/bolsters, CF scales and a 3.5" M390 clip point blade with a Chute Knife influence. It runs on ceramic bearings and opens faster than most flippers.

Lovin It!

A buddy of mine turned me on to Quiet Carry, and I was able to get myself The Waypoint (BBSA) - Vanax SuperClean. This thing came out of the box super sharp and the opening is butter smooth. I've had it a little while and it still feels amazing in the hand.

It's the perfect size for me to be nice daily folder, it's clean enough that it doesn't tear up nice pants, and the deep pocket clip makes it so you can barely see that it's there.

10/10; would recommend.

Just bought one of these for around $30 shipped. If you guys want to try a cheap CA legal OTF automatic, here you go: https://www.grindworx.com/cat--Firecracker-OTF--464

$22 shipped right now looks like. Lightnings are pretty dope and are not a big knife either but I assume larger than those Firecrackers... $35
