Default Breda M1D at palmetto

Just figured I would leave this here in case anyone is interested.

https://palmettostatearmory.com//ita...-bredam1s.html

I was reading about it on cmp forum sounds like they're relatively hard to get.

Interesting. Two things caught my attention:
1. Does not say what country they were made for. Breda made M1's for many countries-not just Italy.
2. Says "rechambered" to 7.62 , so I'm wondering what that means-a barrel chambered to 7.62, or the dreaded chamber insert.

There is more info about them on another board. As far as I understand, the Italians cut the original barrels down for rechambering.

“ The Italians didn’t use a chamber insert like the US Navy Mk2 Mod 0. These Type 2 rifles have original .30-06 barrels that were removed and had the chamber shortened. The barrel is 1/2” shorter and so the stock, rear handguard and op rod and spring are shortened. They also have a metal insert in the receiver. The Type 1 had new 7.62 barrels, but the Italians changed quickly to the Type 2 as a cost effective measure. The BM59 was already adopted as the frontline rifle.”

Thank for the link.

If all that is true, then these are not M1D Garands. At best they are scoped BM59's.

I would assume 7.62 Nato since most m1's and ammo cans I've seen say 30 cal for 30.06.

They have others with no scope or mount. I had to take a look again when I saw the price.
$2800 for no scope or mount
$4000 with scope and mount
if it was $2800 for the scope/mount I would be in

I agree. Maybe if I was guaranteed a matching example for $4k, but not paying $4k for mismatched.

I’d pay over 4 grand for an M1C, but not a D.

Yeah I couldn't help myself and ordered a scoped one. I would still like to get an american m1d in 3006 at some point though.

I have a lead on a italian m1d scope and mount with repop mount
The price is $1400 otd
The scope is usgi and the mount is italian. It has the brass tags on the scope and mount. The mount is clean but looks milled (not cast but is marked as repop)
With all the new rifles in country and complete rifles sold out, what do you think of price?

The scope is usgi, the real deal. The mount is Italian, just like the ones PSA imported.
I'm trying to see if the price is right $1400 otd

The scope block looks to be milled just like the Danish m1d blocks. But the block is marked as repop.

You could always replace the block later with an original.

The one I ordered came in a few days ago. The crate was missing a lot of paint and the packing lists, but still looks decent. The rifle had a winchester bolt and trigger guard, all other parts including the op rod appeared to be breda parts. Overall i would say the rifle is in pretty good condition, the barrel looks pretty good as well. Nice finish on it and the whole thing was coated in some kind of light oil, but certainly not any kind of grease. The scope is clear and appears functional, can hear turret clicks. Unfortunately one of the mount screws immediately sheares off when i checked for tightness so ill have to order a spare. Have not shot yet but it looks fine overall.

My scope slid back recoil and when I went to fix it, snapped head off

I just picked mine up today from my FFL and was semi-disappointed my genuine M84 scope and mount didn't want to fit. The witness hole (not sure what else to call it) on my block was filled in so the mount wouldn't tighten down. Guess I'll have to see if I can find an Italian one....

I got mine a few weeks, still haven't shot it. It looks to be in great shape, with a SA barrel and bolt, with Italian trigger, front sight, and most other parts I can ID.

My one complaint is that my scope was messed up. It was blurry and you couldn't even see the cross-hairs unless viewing from the wrong end. I contacted (or called and waited on hold) PSA repeatedly to complain. I'd have been happy if they had agreed to split the repair cost with me, but I never got a reply.

I ended up sending my m84 to Mountain Optics in the San Diego area. They informed me the scope had been disassembled and put together improperly (!!!??). It was like $200 to fix, and now it looks great. I'm anxious to shoot it with the scope as I've heard some others have had issues with the mounting. Keep your fingers crossed for me--I'm still really excited about it!

I'm curious what kind of shape your crate is in? Mine's pretty good, but painted brown on the outside over the original OD green, with no lettering and no leather handles. I was a little disappointed about that too, as those original crates seem pretty cool!

My crate was beat up. 50% green paint left, minimum visible writing left, not lists or carry handles. It still looks cool though

I though it was in pretty decent shape. Still in the green paint and had the leather handles. In fact my FFL suggested I display it on the mantel (no!). I'll post a pic later.
