At the range in Linden. I don't know if they do classes at other locations too, but that's where I went for them. |

Off roster firearms allowed? Anyone have a off roster firearm on their permit? I am looking at the shield 9mm and some are off roster and I was told that different counties may or not allow them. I can email my IA but there is a delay sometimes from when I hear back and looking to purchase soon so I can qualify with it.

Thanks for the information. I called and signed up for the April class. Duncan sounds like a very knowledgeable instructor with some real life insight.

I just picked up mine this week. I called the week before and they set me up with the appointment for this past Wednesday. Just call and make your appointment. If I had called a few days earlier could have gotten it last week.

I turn in my paperwork in the beginning of May to start the process for my CCW. One of the three on my list is a 642-2 that I removed the internal lock from & put a plug years ago. Should I open it back up & reinstall the lock or should I be good? Has anyone had any trouble with the new sheriff getting their CCW?

For what it's worth, I had a no-lock 642 on my permit for awhile. The issue of having no internal lock never came up.

If you need to take the initial or renewal CCW course I highly recommend Valley Defensive Consultant!! Vince is incredible, retired law enforcement and day 2 you bring over 200 rounds and shoot all day long performing drills and exercises. Best class you can take! No need to shop around these guys are the best!
They also teach defensive 1 and 2 class, shotgun, carbine classes as well. https://www.valleydefense.com Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Ok just a update about my 642 for anyone who cares. I contacted Chuck Fields of NFI, he does a CCW class in Stockton once a month & probably the class I will take so he will be the instructor looking over my firearms & this is the response I got back from him
"No, as long as the firearm is operating smoothly and properly removing the lock should not be an issue and that will not cause it to not pass inspection . Hope this helps... and I look forward to seeing you in class. Chuck Fields" Looks like I'm good to go as far as my internal lock being removed. Now to wait for my appointment in the beginning of next month. I will update then. |

Was going to call and ask too. Thanks for posting. Aggravated that they don’t have a good answer. |

It sounds like they don’t have a policy against it.

Read through the departments rules for CCW. Do you see magazine capacity limits? Also, is there a law that would prevent you from using a legally possessed standard or high capacity magazine in your gun? The answer is no unless you have a fixed mag riffle or pistol which would not be on your permit anyways. |

If you are really worried about it just carry a 10 round mag and a high capacity mag for back up. God forbid if you are in a life threatening situation you need more than 10 rounds you going to worry about grabbing that legally bought high capacity back up magazine? Let's hope that weapon with what ever size magazine never comes out your holster.

Yes it’s aggravating because it’s their responsibility to tell us if it’s acceptable or not and they are passing the buck to a court case that will be decided years from now.
And if it is ruled that those magazines are in fact not legal then you’re in hot water. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Here is the new requirement. Each applicant needs to hit the target 80% of the time which equals 24 rounds: 5 rounds at 1.5 yards 5 rounds at 3 yards 10 rounds at 5 yards 5 rounds at 7 yards 5 rounds at 10 yards * Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I know that the Stanislaus CCW holders now need to qualify with every firearms on their permit. Before they just needed to qualify with a single firearm.

They also had to do two headshots but was really close as well as non dominate hand as well. Seemed their qualify was easier than ours. But even our qualify is easy really. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Okay, small rant ahead. I turned in all my paperwork for renewal 90 days ago and still have not been notified that my renewal is good to go. I did receive a call from the investigator on the 9th but then silence. Nothing has changed in two years but after today I cannot legally carry concealed.
I would not think a no-change renewal would present any kind of problem. rant off.......

I also put in my renewal paperwork 3 months ahead of time. They were going over applications according to the month your ccw expires so they didn't get to mine until after it had expired in February. Went without ccw for about 3 weeks. Plus the new Sheriff was a bit behind since just starting in January.

When I recently picked up my permit I was told to call 4 months in advance to make a renewal appointment. They said it usually takes 3 months but to call in 4 to make sure there is no overlap.

Interesting especially since the new Sheriff told me things would get better/quicker under his administration. Not good.

Ugh. Judging by the recent posts, looks like I still have a couple more weeks to wait for my renewal to be approved. I'm already a week expired and I called 3 months prior.
