Exclamation Open Q&A for the Franklin Armory® CA7™

Hey everyone!

This is Franklin Armory... (Yes, The actual guys over at Franklin Armory)

Just wanted to open up a little Q&A session regarding the CA7™ AR15 Pistol that we offer for California residents...

Heres a link to a little video if youre not familiar:

https://youtu.be/DB6O9W4XWLY

Just a heads up - some things i can answer, like availability and components... Other things i cannot; like modifications, legal matters... We are not lawyers, and we dont want to put anyone in a bad situation...

So, with that being said, fire away with the questions!

Do you have a video link of someone shooting it so we can see how it functions?

The guys in the YouTube comments are asking questions and your YouTube account person replied and said check it out, with a link to your website. Maybe it’s because I’m browsing on iPhone, but I can’t see specific details on your site about how it functions.

Bolt action repeater? So you have to manipulate the bolt for every shot?

Mine is still in jail! (seriously tho, that rifle case is a bit much for the little thing)

If I need to change out the buffer tube, what is holding it on?

Yep, everything else is just as it should be; magazine drops freely with the push of a button. No gas tube means your action stays really clean too.

First off, I wanted to say thank you for supporting the California firearms market and jumping through the hoops to get CA Roster approval.

I've been tempted to pick-up a CA7 from my LGS, but have been hesitant as my desired configuration would mean removing a lot of the parts.

Similar to this:
Solo 300 Firing Demo

My question would be: Are there future plans to possibly release a budget minded/entry level model?

Thank you.

For posts #2 and 4:
While I wasn't able to find a video demonstrating the action of this gun from Franklin Armory's official YouTube channel, here is a firing demo from a YouTube review.
Gun Guy TV CA7 Review

In its stock configuration, the CA7 has a manually operated action where the charging handle needs to be pulled back after each shot.

How quick does the novelty factor wear off and one gets tired of pulling the bolt back for each shot?

I'm sure it would look cool on display though.

Well the reality of this pistol is... it’s not really meant to be a novelty...

It’s a way to get a legal A.R. pistol in California and do with it what you wish.

But to actually answer your question.

Once.

Welcome, but just double checking that you are Legit because you have only one post and you are not listed as a vendor -but as just a junior member.

You work at Franklin Armory?

What is your title/job there?

I have chatted in posts several times with this Franklin Armory user(Vendor) here:

https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...19&postcount=1

By his posts he appears to be the owner -Jay.

Just want to make sure you’re not a DOJ plant.. LOL.

And yes I have a Franklin CA7 and I love it.

Yea, im legit... I work in the marketing department over here in Minden, this is just our other account that our marketing guys are gonna be using.

You've probably seen Jay roaming around on the site as well, he likes to poke his head in and answer questions from time to time.

So, for some of your questions:

1) Im not a DOJ plant, hahaha...

2) We did make this firearm just to be able to offer you guys an option that would be legal in CA. Its made of all standard parts that you can find on many common AR15's, sans the gas system - the lack of the gas system is what makes it available for you...

3) Im glad you appreciate the work that we have put into the CA7, it took quite a considerable amount of effort to get this to CA...

Current lead time is about 8 weeks... Due to the popularity of the pistol, dealers and distributors are cleaning us out rather quickly...

If you are good with waiting a bit, feel free to order from us. But if you cant wait, by all means, please visit a shop that stocks them...

OP's post doesn't read like a "for sale" thread.

reads like a vendor that wants to answer questions about their product in a informal setting.

Agreed.
Vendors posting here in the actual section for their firearm type is a great idea.

Especially soliciting questions about their product.

Much more likely to be seen by Calgunners, which obviously benefits both the manufacturer and the posters here.

Mine, like others here, had some sort of blue thread locker on it.

Although Jay from Franklin said they use red Vibra-tite.
Mine did not have that.

Channel locks and a leather belt should probably do it -but for $20 I bought one of these:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-34...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

It broke loose fine with that strap wrench and no heat.
Although I ain’t gonna lie,the snap(crack!)noise it made when it broke loose had me hoping when I looked down that I wasn’t going to be looking at a multi piece receiver! LOL!

I thought about the guys who snapped off the bottom of their lower receiver when they try to put the trigger guard on LOL!

Nope-I did not join that club.No special helmet for me (yet!)Lower is still in one piece.

If you have a blow dryer or heat gun-probably not a bad idea to use it to soften up the lock tite first.
I bought a heat gun, but after someone else here posted they had blue Loctite on their Franklin ,I thought I’d give it a(somewhat gentle)go without heat first.

If it gave me too much resistance -I was going to bust out the heat gun.

Yep, blue, not red. Armorers have both on the bench, but blue for that application....either way, I recommend light heat. (Never use extreme heat.)

I shoot my TC Contender that requires opening the action, loading the round to chamber, closing the action, then cocking the hammer before I can take aim to fire a shot. The only advantage my TC Contender has is being able to switch my barrels chambered in 22LR up to 45/70.
