Default Latest fun shop score.

Though out the years Iíve had a few right place at the right time moments at local gun shops. Someone is there looking to off load stuff that the gun store doesnít want to buy, once scored two large milk creates full of 12guage bird shot. The person found it while cleaning out a garage and was just looking to unload it, for years I was shooting that free ammo. Also got a Marlin 22 mag bolt rifle for $25 once, samething someone trying to sell it to a shop.

Hereís the latest find a Wardís Western Field model 30 take down 12 gauge shotgun for $40. Itís the civilian version of Stevens WWII trench shotgun, this one was made for Montgomery Wards. Iím guesstimating made in the late 40ís, I think somewhere around the early 50ís they stopped making them for department stores. Itís a handy little shotgun and the take down ability is pretty cool, Iíve put bird and buck shot though it works fine. Action not as smooth as newer guns, but not terrible. Iíve cleaned it good once, but it can use more previous owner hadnít cleaned it in decades?

Actually it’s been shot a ton, the pics don’t show it and the park finish is pretty good. But when you break it down and look at the internal parts it’s got quite a bit of wear.

I’m not a big shotgun guy, I’ve got a house gun an old Winchester defender that I love, a mossberg 500, a Turk SA tacticool, a old Winchester over/under and a Beretta SA bird gun.

Always wanted the old Browning Trench Shotgun and this civilian version is close enough.

Yeah I figured even if it didnít work and parts were too hard to find or expensive Iíd keep it as a wall hanger, just a cool old cheapy shotgun I still get a kick out of the top locking bolt, just donít see that anymore.

It ainít no Benelli M4 but itís functional and works well as long as you use high brass full power loads. Doesnít like low brass bird shot, but runs great with buck or slugs.
