What is the cheapest Price you could build or buy a AR for?

Aero precision Complete Upper from a Gunshow $200.
Bought a composite palmer lower for $40. A full lower parts kit from Ebay $30 and some cheap *** pistol grip from del mar gun show $30.

$300 AR? I would pass immediately. You get what you pay for. If you can't afford the quality stuff you should probably stay away. That thing is going to blow up and not worth the risk.

$300 is more fitting for the cost of a barrel. The cheapest I would remotely consider is a PSA build kit. But, even that is not a risk I would take unless you got the premium parts version.

$300 is pretty much skimping on too many things that I would need to trust on, while shooting it. But the OP just wanted to see how cheap he could build one and throw it in the safe. Kinda just like burning 3 $100 dollar bills.

With PSA I like the mid range "freedom" labeled stuff.
Certain things I look for are 4150v barrel steel, barrel cut style and their premium BCG's. The only MIL spec thing missing is the chrome lining. After all is said and done for a CA compliant AR, you end up in $500 and up range. Even higher when you get to the CHF PSA/FN barrels.
While DD and LMT and BCM are fine rifles, I don't see the extra $$ matter if you are not an operator who is operating operational equipment.

I guess I missed the part where the OP said he used a mill.

I don't know what is it with these threads on being able to build the cheapest AR. In the end you may win that pissing contest on being the cheapest, but you're going to hurt yourself trying do so when something bad happens. As mentioned, not advocating highend stuff like DD or LMT but things like barrel and BCG shouldn't be scrimped on.

I didn't pay that much attention to it. That's a good deal.

Not Anderson, those are polymer lowers.

That was a pretty sweet deal. I do believe there's a difference between a good deal and a cheap price.

I guess my dilemma with the "cheap" AR is that I've only ever seen one true manufacturing issue, which ironically was on a S&W MP where the upper and lower weren't mating well. I've also seen an extractor go to crap. But otherwise, I've never seen an AR issue that wasn't attributable to a magazine.
Most of the break downs occurred with home made ARs. Bought bunch of parts from gun shows and cheap parts from the net. Most common problem was cycling issues which caused timing issues and so on. There were couple of well known companies. S&W M&P Sporter Model and PSA brand. Gas leaking, ejection problems and what's related to that.

Fortunately, I have not witness a catastrophic failure which may lead to a injury, yet. But, those parts actually breaking a part during the class session is just ridiculous. If a rifle that can not go through a 600 rounds training without breaking down, it's not a rifle would want to pay any money to buy.

A good DEAL (like the NiB SA LW Operator I got off Gunbroker for $775!) would be, but not a "cheap" firearm.
Agreed. When you factor in the cheap insurance generally the difference in the cost of the quality is negligible, esp when you plan on keeping it for many years to come. I'll take another new LMT 224 Val again for $1500. Same goes for handguns.
