Can't really buy 2 guns at this point.
A sporting gun is more "universal" vs. a dedicated trap gun. Dedicated trap guns "shoot high". Not a rule, but a generality. Some mfgs will "advertise" 50/50, or 60/40, or 70/30. My trap guns are older and shoot fairly flat. Even my 90's BT-99 (which if you're shooting singles is a very good value for a "lifetime" gun). Other's will just put game related "features" without actually doing anything that affects POI. Ex: Mfg. adds some extended chokes and calls it "sporting" vs. "field".

I tend toward flatter shooting guns as my real interest in targets is developing/maintaining my field proficiency.

Remember that all the shotgun games have bird shooting as their root. They can all be shot well with a "field" gun. But each sport is going to have it's specialists and the preferred tools of the specialists. I don't shoot for $$$ and though I have a few trophies I don't shoot for them either.

I hear ya. I was bit reluctant to get Trap models for that reason.

Lately, leaning bit towards the sports model with 30 inch barrels.

Thanks for your opinion.

It's not complicated. Get an 870 Wingmaster with two barrels and learn to shoot it well. Or get a decent used field O/U with 28" barrels and use it for everything.

My first bird/clays gun was a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster with a 28" rem-choke barrel. Shot it exclusively for a long time.

While out quail hunting and right after shooting at a couple of birds with it, my friend said, "man you shout that auto loader fast."

Over a long thoughts, all of you guys' opinion, opinions from my shooting friends at the range, and also advice from the shop. I finally made a decision on the model I will buy.

I decided to go with Ceasar Guerini Summit Sporting in 32 inch. Yes, it's bit pricy than the budget I set for at the beginning. However, I did observe many guys started with starter gun like Silver Pigeons and Citori lines and after a while started to upgrade to more mid-tier premium lines.

They all go through starter rig then replace or buying additional guns, ended up spending more money. I did not want to go there.

When I compared a customer's Silver Pigeon, and the Citori and the Summit on the shelf for about 30 minutes, I knew that Summit will last lifelong with me.

I spoke to my shooting buddies and they all said that is a bold and courageous move on my part but all agreed it's right move know me as a shooter.

Anyhow, it was very informative discussion from all of you helped me a lot.

They had a silver at the Pheasant's Forever raffle yesterday. It just looked cheap to me in all aspects. No...I didn't handle it.

I love Berettas, have a bunch of them, but have never been impressed with the SP-I. They have been finding ways to make the 686 cheaper for years, and the early ones were much nicer guns. The 687 Silver Pigeons are a different story and a better comparison for the CG. CGs are nice guns, well built and serviced, but much of their appeal is cosmetic. Whatever one might think of CGs, they are pretty.

Nobody has ever accused cg of making bad guns. If it fit nicely, that's easily a gun you can be happy shooting for the rest of your life. Congrats!

I was speaking to the Mossberg Silver.

But ya...I'm not enamored with the Silver Pigeon either. The relief "engraving" looks a little comical to me. Made cheaper doesn't mean made poorly though. The Browning Citori was made cheaper than the Superposed, but it would hard to say they aren't just as reliable, durable. Perhaps not the emotional penache, but not inferior.

In Beretta O/U's, I have a couple 682 Golds (not Gold E), a Garcia era BL-2. I have an old SxS Silver Hawk (Beretta made Galef imported gun...not really model numbered, but close to a 409) as well.

YA..CG's are very pretty. Those aesthetics are part of the price.
