I have a Savage BA110 in .338 Lapua Magnum I'd part ways with for a very fair price. Scope is a Vortex Razor 5-20 Gen 1. Very nice rifle. Shoots well... Been out past a mile with it. Just moved on and don't shoot it hardly at all anymore... Might have 200 rounds though it?

PM me if interested. Obviously will adhere to all laws and use FFL....

Ruger RPR in 300 Win Mag or 7mm. The RPR is a big rifle and fully adjustable for a great price. The 300 Win Mag with a good brake is a great combination. you can shoot over 100 rounds and not have a headache. It is like a nice push like a .45 1911 as opposed to a crisp crack of a 9mm. Not sure about the 7mm recoil, but ballistics should be even better than the 300 Win Mag. Two excellent all around cartridges and capable of long range accuracy. Especially the 7mm.

My 2 cents.

Edit: Just learned it doesn't come in 7mm. You could always buy a new barrel if you want 7mm.

Keep in mind that there is a trade off between velocity and barrel life. A flat shooting 499,000 fps cartridge will have little drop at 1,000 yards but will burn the barrel out at 10 rounds. If you are shooting at 800 yards or less a 308 or 30-06 or 6.5x55 will work well.

Great choice but I also think that you should include ballistic calculator in your shopping list.

This thing could improve your aim and overall satisfaction from the gun!

I'm 6'2" and 190 Lbs and I shoot .224, .243 and .264 caliber cartridges for 1,000 yard matches. Anything bigger than a 308 isn't gong to make you a better shooter until you get past that range. A bigger cartridge is going to be a disadvantage in learning to shoot long range (out to 1,000 yards) with the increased recoil.

It's not that I mind recoil or anything because I regularly shoot some big cartridges but the smaller, more efficient cartridges will do the job better, especially for the first few years of learning

We all know that the guys that "need" a larger rifle are the very same guys that are only going to shoot it at 100yds on a KD range and it's really about the recoil and so they can impress their friends by pulling the big cigar sized cartridge out of the cartridge box.

If it was about hits on target at longrange, they would be asking about BC not cartridge power/size...

Most 6mm cartridges shoot just as flat or flatter than a 300 win mag to 1000yds.

Hmmm, explains why guys smirk at my 6mmBR in the locker room.... 66 rounds at 1,000yds slung-up ain't gonna wear me out.

I have the CA in 338 and Creedmoor. You'll enjoy shooting 338. It's the only 338 where you can shoot a whole mag standing up.

Are you still a 6 dasher fan? I’ve been talking to Gary Eliseo about building me a gun. I’m kinda stuck deciding between .308 and 6 dasher.

I know, I know, they are very different ... but really I’m shooting mostly 650 to 1k. Where I shoot there are also some gongs at 1300

I’m fascinated with the idea of how small of groups I can make on paper at 650.

This is why I don't even shoot my .300WM anymore, it already has almost 500 down the tube and I love shooting it.

I have never been a dasher fan.
I'm a bigger fan of Creedmoor size rounds or the 6xc or even a standard 6br.
Any will do exactly what you want.
There are LOTS of steps between 308 and a small 6mm.
Like say a 6.5 Creedmoor...

if you hate the dasher, you've likely never shot one

the 6.5 creedmoor with Lapua SRP brass does look appealing with the newer high BC bullets though

I never said I hate it.
It's a fine cartridge in a single shot.
Just not a fan of it in magazines, hence the creedmoors or the XC recommendations as both of those feed slick as grease on glass from unmodified mags.

They feed if you use the right magazine

Dashers, and any BR based cartridge not feeding properly is 100% setup error.

if you use the right mags, they feed the same as any other short action caliber.

I love my 6mmBR and agree entirely with what you say, That's why it's not as popular with some other choices that are easy "plug and play" options. Mag/feeding and the short case that flips off of the extractor/ejector prematurely....once again, 100% set-up and/or user issue.

You actually recommend 6 dasher to me many years ago because of better barrel life.

I’m going to build a gun eventually. I’m leaning toward .308 because of availability of components and acceptance in more matches.

I don't get it? What's the downside to the 6GT, other than brass availability or having to form it yourself?

For a beginner, get a gun chambered in a factory loaded round. It's better to concentrate on learning to shoot without all the extras like case forming, etc.

Oh yeah, I didn't consider the OP was a fairly inexperienced shooter.

If you want a 6 but want to start with factory ammo, get a 6mm Creedmoor. It will resemble your eventual wonder6 a lot more than a .308.

How about this, 6.5x284 short .080" or punch out to 6.5x284.
New 30" Broughton bbl. 40x SS action, sake extrac. Tac bolt handel, custom scope mt. (Scope/rings not included) jewel 2 oz trigger.

Belonged to my brother just rebarreled.
