Thanks. I just found your post with the map. I still don’t know if I am yellow or red.

Either way, I was curious on how many greens got approved. I have two friends approved, however they are the same color code as me.

No, I just looked at the color coded map. I am looking for your post, can’t find it so far.

Edit. I found your thread, reading it now.

The deputy actually told me what he was using for my GC. I think more from my past employment. I dont know how he will word his report, but I think I know the jist.

Yeah yours might take a bit longer, LASD has said in the past their internal mail system is pretty slow to get it to downtown.

I shipped it via flat rate and it got there one day later (West Side) and check was cashed in about 8/9 days.

Oh sorry, I don't know why but I thought Temple was Monterey Park.

Maybe you didn't have enough money in your account? Just kidding. I would email the CCW email and just check in with them.

GC: light green
3/24/2021 - application mailed
4/07/2021 - check cashed
5/03/2021 - called for interview @ the Whittier station
5/06/2021 - interview completed (Deputy stated to go get livescan to speed up the process) I guess it doesn't hurt to get scanned even if I may get denied no?

That’s really that last piece. If no issue at the interview and given the go ahead to do live scan, then if clean, there shouldn’t be an issue for approval.

Do it. The sooner the better.

For all I know I’ll get denied anyway, but out of curiosity, do you all know if reloads are allowed for the qualification part of the CCW class—or does it have to be factory ammo?

From my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, once your livescan passes you should be good to go? That'll be great news given your light green GC!

I used ammo I loaded myself at firing line in Burbank. No one checks your ammo. I did see some training places only allowed factory ammo but firing line does not care.

Good to know. Thanks. Firing line was one of my favorites before I moved out of the area.

I don't think they will care. I don't think there's any policy at all about what type of ammo you qualify with or carry, however the standard recommendation is to only carry factory new high quality ammo, for many good reasons.

Don't be so negative about your chance of getting a CCW. Sheriff AV is issuing. Make a strong application and go for it.

At the bigger level, SCOTUS has granted cert to a carry case from NYC, and it's more than likely they will rule that "may issue" systems that exclude most people violate the 2A. Don't fall into "battered gun owner syndrome". Apply.

FWIW for carry ammo I would suggest finding out what ammo is used/approved by LASD and/or CHP for your caliber. After a normal break in with ball ammo, test a few hundred each in your gun and carry what functions reliably, is accurate and you like.

For permit qualification use whatever you like unless LASD or trainer specifies otherwise.

Default Mailed Yesterday

I mailed my application yesterday.

GC returning to in in-office work, and late nights, in a high crime area, and carrying expensive equipment to and from. Additionally solo camping and overlanding in remote areas with many upgrades, plus camera and computer equipment.

I will update if it goes anywhere.

The best bet is to carry the same ammo as LASD, LAPD, or your local PDs carrying.

I use Ranger 147gr 9mm and perform flawlessly with all my 9mm handguns.

I have gotten confirmation from an hourly deputy that LASD uses Winchester Rangers. Now just to find some.
