I hope this site recovers, been a member for over 15 years and past few months this site just does not work.

Posted an ad in marketplace and after a week or so, my account was 'frozen'. I cannot edit or post at all. Never had any trouble before and i know i am following the marketplace rules.

Can someone look into this and fix my original account so i can post again?
Original account is AARIK.
Had to create this account in order to be able to post here.

Thank,

I get that maybe Kes has other things going on. But nothing from the mods?

I'd definitely be curious to know who and if they do actually have control, is there anyway to move forward?

You'll fit right into the rest of society...

It's what post 'covid years' has become.

The situation has certainly degraded to a ridiculous degree. The only way to browse Calguns nowadays is opening a large quantity of of tabs in the background and returning later.

I'm going to attempt to move the "Mojave lever Crew" threads/sub forum to The High Road.org site. Sorry, but, this one is toast.

MLC, but gone from here.

With the new 11% excise tax coming into effect, how many millions upon millions of dollars will the state of California profit by killing the used gun market and shifting the purchase curve to new firearms. I have no doubt in my mind that there's some serious behind the scenes bull**** going on and there's higher powers that are looking to destroy this website.

Before we tighten up the tin foil hats too much, I would love to hear from Kes before we turn things that direction. He posted 3 days ago, so unless someone has posted in his name, he's still around.

Notice I'm not really denying the possibility, though.....

I just don't understand why people complain over a free website that has to cost Kes a significant amount every month to operate. Most of the complainers in the various threads I've seen don't contribute financially to the forum. Advertising is way down for many reasons.

Considering the constant spam hassles, the extra attention from federal and state agencies, the required moderation and conspiracy theories, I'm surprised the party has lasted this long.

This website isn't a public service and none of us are entitled to its existence. Maybe afford the owner some grace or go elsewhere.

Gabe cancelled warrior Talk Forum and made it a patreon site

I think that is gone now too

https://suarezinternational.com/who-we-are/

snipers hide changed to a sports site for a while and then back to its own host...

I have no idea what it costs to host a forum with 50K members...

If anything, I would like to see a partnership with GOA or CRPA to add backing to the site and get the information out to the public

I'm contributor and don't care if someone is or not if they want to voice a concern any more than I would about someone shouting them down who doesn't even live in CA.

You'd think supporters would be kept abreast of what is going on, but we aren't and I have to think long and hard if I will continue to do so. I get nothing is free, but I can't see how the site will continue to collect revenue from advertisers, contributors and vendors, which is too bad as there isn't another forum for CA fa owners remotely like it and is why I tried to help.

I haven't shouted anyone down. I gave my opinion, same as everyone else has. I don't live in CA anymore but I have plenty of interest in keeping the anti-2A BS from spreading to my new home state. I'm in the fight, continuing to contribute to CRPA and other pro 2A causes, Calguns, included.

I'll tell you what I see. I often see a small group of entitled folks on Calguns who think that, because they visit the site, that they somehow get to decide on how it's run or how things should be. This is a private site. It isn't and shouldn't be run like a democracy. It isn't a public utility or service. The incessant whining is troubling. All I asked for was maybe some understanding for the owners that not everything happens in the time WE want it to.

I've been contributing for years as this is my favorite online hangout.

Don't you think it rather odd that none of the site's leadership has made any comment for several weeks on the status of the site? How long would it take anyone to at least post a sticky "Things are moving forward, but we cannot give any details at this time?"

Why should any advertisers stick around? By any reasonable guess, this site has been left adrift in the sea.

There's more than one way to contribute to this website, and those of us who visit the site each and every day multiple times a day are doing just as much to contribute as those who are giving money. Again, never forget that without foot traffic there is no advertising dollars. And don't try and tell me kes is bleeding money out of his *** day after day, month after month, and year after year just because he's a nice guy and wants us to have a place to visit that's pro 2A. I'm sure this is been a very lucrative proposition for him for a considerable amount of time. If this truly was a monetary issue, then I would expect him to come on and post something asking for donations and specifying why the money is needed and how it will help upgrade the site and help it to run properly. That's never been mentioned, all that has ever been mentioned is this is a software migration issue.

Exactly. I certainly do not feel entitled to the perpetual existence of Calguns, but if every user abandons the site, then the information and community would die forever. If the owners no longer care about maintaining the infrastructure or operating the backend, then a transfer of power ought to take place.

Beholding the tsunami-size wave of orders that online ammunition vendors have received after Judge Benitez published the Rhode v. Bonta injunction has increased my confidence in the gun nuts.

I've been on Calguns for 16yrs. It's become part of my daily routine to come on here read, learn and comment. That is now nearly impossible. I click the button daily but after 30 sec of nothing I move on and forget about it.

If Calguns were an addiction, I am in forced rehab / retraining. I went from 16 years of visiting multiple times daily to trying the site to see if it works and failing every few days. How many others have given up?

It has been months. Calguns is dying right before our eyes and it bums me out.

As many have posited, operational control or outright ownership really ought to transfer to someone who actually actively uses the site.

Since you're my favorite kind of choad smoker I'll bite. Few people on Calguns or in CA have given, volunteered or worked the way I have. You don't get your free **** and you complain. I've worked my *** off for this community. Thousands of users here will tell you the same.

This site has fallen on hard times. It sucks. In fact, it's heartbreaking for me because the people who I'm closest to in this world, my brothers, I met here. Sometimes, bad stuff happened. I know almost every moderator personally. They are wonderful people. I know the owner and his wife. They are top notch human beings. Sometimes, bad things happen we can't control. Instead of ****ting on people, how about we find a way to help and lift them up.

You've done nothing here but complain. You can grandstand and **** on this site but frankly you have no idea what we've fought for years. So go **** yourself back to whatever hole you came from. We don't need your bull**** here.
If you know Kes and his wife, then first at least check on them and make sure all is well and at least let us know.

Secondly, if (and I say if) Kes has basically given up then can you ask him if there's a way to transfer the ownership? If there's money involved that he keeps as some sort of income, then let him keep some of it as a thank you for creating what has to be the best gun forum on the market.

I have no doubt that we could come up with (amongst ourselves) a way to create a small committee of folks that can help maintain, upgrade, and run this site. I've seen comments from users that say they're tech savvy, work in the industry and would gladly assist in making this better and more functional.

We have got to save this site, or at least create a new one that can keep us all together.

I recently saw that a popular boat forum (Striper Owners Club) shut down, due to the owner overwhelmed due to health issues.
Decades of valuable information like the history, construction and parts sources was lost, and nothing to see on the digital archives like the Wayback machine.
That would truly be a bummer if it happened here!

That would truly be a bummer if it happened here!
THAT would be a shame because there is a LOT of great institutional knowledge here. I've actually used information I've learned here out in the world and there is a lot of stuff I still haven't learned yet.

Plus, the 2A litigation and laws affecting me forums are what I use to help keep a non-lawyer type like me in the loop.

History disintegrating...

All part of 'build back better' I guess.

My offer still stands. I am willing to negotiate a fair market value price for the site and restore it to its former glory. I have the means an knowledge. But no response from Kes...

He fired me back in October after running the entire vendor operation for 14 years, being the only person who managed communications with all the advertisers on the site. Site has always made good money when I was doing it, not sure why he would just stop communicating here. I thought the site was dead for the past few months. Had lots of vendors reaching out to me to ask how they can cancel their payments because the site is down, even though they know I don’t work here anymore. To be fair the site has needed updates for many years, it was always like pulling teeth to get ANYTHING fixed from him.

And that is the sad part of it. If it's been making good money, why screw up a good cash cow? Anything digital will always need upgrades over time. If you stay ahead of it, it's a minor thing. I would think he'd want to work with our people in the community to make it better. If all the vendors quit, then everything crashes and ends for no reason at all.

That doesn't sound good at all.

We're gonna need a new place to go.

calgunsabandonedus.com is available. Just sayin'.

Perhaps the mods could chime in. Or at least tell us they know nothing as well.

Don't know whether there are changes made yet to the forum, but at least for today 2/12/2024 the site seems to be running at normal speed, I just want to post something positive as it seems most just post to complain about the slowness, hope everything is good with Kestryll and just want to say Thank You for this site

Believe me, if there was an upgrade that took place that fixed the problem in perpetuity, these guys would be on here boasting like Biden does about the economy and bidenomics. Nothing has been fixed, you just have periods where it might run for 3 minutes at a time and then have a seizure again
