The cheapest steel case will work. I will recommend a slip on pad, not for recoil but to increase its length of pull. It makes a great difference when shooting and much more comfortable than scrunching up to it.

Did the OP mean to say he was going to shoot 100 rounds at the same target?

I had a pierced primer with Tula ammo years ago. 100% ammo issue, not the SKS. The bolt seized in the closed position and there was a big puff of smoke. The round did fire. Using great effort I got it open and the firing pin was toast.

For that reason, Tula is my last choice for ammo but I will still use it if that is all that's available. It was a one-off problem and hasn't reoccured with me since.

I have a whole bunch of Russian milsurp stripper clips. Too many in fact, with a boatload more in a couple of crates of Russian milsurp ammo.

So what is with these recommendations to just pop down to Dicks, or Big 5 and pick up some Red Army 7.62X39 ammo? These brick and mortar stores don't carry anything but overpriced Privi 7.62X39, if ANY 7.62X39 at all! AND you can't buy online anymore!

SO! If you didn't stock up before the Internet ammo shutdown, what is the sense of all these "just pick up some ..." advice?

Agreed. You shoulda bought bulk when you could have. Up until recently, you could get good ammo buys right here. Sometimes you still can if you've dealt with folks previously, and they have your trust.

Just sayin...a wink-and-a-nod still goes a long way PAX
