Ahh ok , this makes sense as I was wondering if the Ruger MkIV had a CLI installed. According to this, it does not need to. That means the non-threaded barrel mark IV?s and many of the 49 state buckmarks can go on roster too, along with the taurus TX .22.

For anyone wondering if the CA version of the MKIV will be any different - the images on Ruger's website are identical for the existing target model. They have the same serial number on the non-CA version. I wonder why they made a new SKU?

I sold my MkI and Standard last year. Kept my stainless 6 7/8" and 10" MkIIs. I may pick one of these up. Always loved the Mk series, probably because it's what I learned to shoot with.

They probably made a CA specific sku because the CA guns can NOT have any production methods changed in the future.
So even though it's the same gun as the 49 state model NOW, if they make changes to the 49 state model later, that will not effect the CA model which was drop tested with specific components that can not ever be changed.
By separating the sku and making production notes that the parts can never change on that specific CA sku, that frees them up to make production changes freely on the 49 state model.

Looks like Turners lists them for $550, but none in stock. Maybe they'll have a few by Black Friday...

I've got a Standard MkI, but always wanted a bull barrel.

I have little doubt that more Mk IV's are coming. Including the standard, hunter, competition, 22/45, and probably even ONE model of 22/45 LITE (model 43921 which has a non-threaded barrel to be re-SKU'd for CA, of course).

On the Mark 4- what's the "Blued Stainless Steel"? I thought you couldn't do that.
Whatever it is- if CZ could "Blue" their SS Python like this I might be interested in one.

I'm over 50 and I cannot remember ever seeing any handguns that weren't air powered for sale in a Big 5 store. Granted maybe that's just in the SF Bay Area and they did sell them at one time somewhere else in CA - but I've never seen it. Only long guns.

I?d say wait. Like with the CA320, RifleGear and other shops offered better pricing (and less hassle than buying at Turners).

You can black oxide stainless steel and due to the epa regulations, most guns that are sold as "blued" are actually black oxided these days anyways.

I'm not very familiar with these pistols, do the free state versions have magazine disconnects or is this a CA specific feature for this model that was just added to the roster? I owned a MK1 a few years ago and can't remember if it had one or not. Ended up selling it because I couldn't figure out the field stripping and assembly. Loved everything else about the pistol. It had a perfect trigger and nice balance and sights. I think I may have even brought it to the buyer in the 2 pieces, I can't remember. I just remember trying to wrangle that little lever in the grip at just the right angle for over an hour one afternoon until I gave up. I would be very interested in this CA version of the MKIV due to the easier field stripping design.

It should only be a matter of S&W drop testing it and rostering it since it already has a magazine disconnect.
My dad got me an SW22 earlier this year but I have not even had it to the range yet.

Thank you, it sounds like they should be just as reliable and well built as the free state models then. I always get nervous when they have to alter the original designs to accommodate California specific requirements. I was not a fan of the loaded chamber indicator on the M&P Shield California version. It blocked the line of vision of the irons on the sight picture.

I had a SR22 in DROS at Turners when they went off roster. They would not release to me. I bought a used one for$370. Traded it a few years ago. I missed it and and bought another for a lot more. Finally found a Mark IV stainless for $950 a few years ago. My SR-22s have been picky with ammo. The Mark IVs have been great.

Recieved a flyer from Turners advertising pricing and availability soon blued with the 5 1/2" heavy barrel.

I'm even older. It has been several decades since Big 5 sold handguns; and even when they did, it wasn't exactly the most spectacular selection. They are a discount sporting goods store, after all.

Nevertheless, if they wanted to reintroduce handguns to their lineup, I wouldn't complain. The more, the merrier.

This gun does well with the Holosun HS407/507KX2 with the 32 MOA circle and 2 MOA dot.

You can use either or both. I use both. This makes finding the image easy and centering the dot accurate. To mount the optic as low as possible to the barrel, I got a $65 Madmacs base which mounts the optic base 0.0825" above the barrel and you don't need to remove the rear sight.

The MkIV is very accurate out of the box with the adjustable open sights and I recommend shooting it by itself to see if you even need optics. With the red dot, it's a very good performer at 50 feet and boringly accurate at 10 yards.

Sight in shots at 50 feet on a rest using Federal Automatch ammo $19/325.

The nice thing is Automatch is subsonic in my MkIV averaging 1010 fps so no need to buy expensive subsonic ammo for suppressor shooting for those living in the free part of the country.

Maybe allowing suppressors in CA eventually but getting this on the roster is nice.
Getting rid of this unconstitutional infringement (the roster) is the main thing.

Nope.

It appears that CA DOJ BOF has decided that they will not implement the 1 for 3 removal, since its addition to the CA unsafe handgun laws was tied to the CA microstamping requirements and the microstamping requirements were stayed by the Courts.
