They're American made (mostly), Buck has great service, maintains a good presence on bladeforums, has a great warranty, and is IMO underrated by most people who equate them to old Fudd knives.
In fact, I'd say that 'Buck = Fudd knife' issue is part of why Buck seems to not keep their more modern designs around. Buck doesn't keep stuff around that doesn't sell, and few people go to Buck looking for a 'modern' knife; so stuff like the Ground Combat series end up being short lived.

I like the 124... I just have so many similar sized knives and a lot of users. Like a SYKCO Regulator or Regulator 6.5, a Jackmandu, or a Son of Dogfather (SOD)... with nice sheaths... and more beater-class, OKC RAT7, Becker BK15, etc... I probably have enough fixed blades, but would like to try a Buck sometime. Last year I minimized the fixed blades a bit culling dupes.
