Default Imbert & Smither closing

Imbert Smither in San Carlos is closing. They still have ammo for sale at 20% off until end of December. Everything else (accessories, scopes) are 40%.

They are NOT setting firearms at this point or doing any ppt.

Owner is selling the business and there will be a new LGS at the same location some time next year.

This has been a great store by where I live. Great people to work with.

Never gave them my business but I heard great things about them.

At least another LGS will be occupying the same location next year..

That's a shame. Used to do a lot of business with those guys when I was still living in the Bay Area.

Best of luck to the folks at I&S. You guys were awesome to me.

The racks of used rifles and shotguns had me visit them often. Bought 2 rifles from them over the years.

Yeah, I'm hesitant to think it will be a slam dunk. The city recently made them take all of the consignment long guns off of the rack and move them behind the counter. Things are getting stupid more and more every day.

I hated visiting I&S. Every time I go there to window shop with no intent to buy anything, I find something and spend money. My wallet will be heavier because of this.

Being real. This is sad. Very very sad. They were a staple in the peninsula. So unique compared to the other LGS. I could just walk in and fondle all the consignment firearms. Gina and gang were alway friendly and joking around. They never showed an ounce of snobbery or impatience. Best of luck to the new LGS. TY for keeping the torch lit. However, there are big shoes to fill.

Went in to the shop on Friday, some decent prices on everything, still lots of ammo, cleaning supplies, rifle reloading bullets. Spoke to Jina, they have a few prospective buyers in the works, part of the agreement will be to keep the name of the store as is. Jina is an NRA licensed instructor and will be focusing on that. I wish them all the best.

Too far for me to go. Heard they had a hell of a selection of used guns.

Sorry to hear this. Lived in the Bay Area when they were my goto gunshop in the late 70's, early '80S.

Father liked them, but I liked Tabor's down the street and H&H is Redwood City more.

I always found those significantly over-priced. I liked that they had a healthy turnover of used handguns, even though you didn't find good deals too often. I did pick up a used 3" S&W Model 65 for $550 a handful of years ago. Couldn't believe the price because even then these were selling for $800-900.

Wonder how they will open up a new shop when San Carlos put a moritorium on new FFL's in San Carlos after Turners tried to move in?

What’s the latest on this? Are they still open? I saw a Happy New Years tweet from I&S and their website hasn’t changed. Nothing mentions closing other than here and on Reddit. Always had a great experience at the shop.

Kinda of hard to have a gun store when they no longer have an FFL.

Got it. Thanks for the update. Just a bit confused since this was their tweet from yesterday (Jan 2):

Imbert & Smithers

Make it your New Year's resolution to finally upgrade your rifle or shotgun for hunting season. When you're ready to make that purchase, just give us a visit. #ImbertAndSmithers

Imbert & Smithers was my favorite gun shop for many many years.
Cool funky shop.
Great vibe
Fun guys that hung out there. Many of them were hanging out with an eye on the counter to intercept guns that came in. But, there seemed to be plenty to go around.

Sometimes you found head-scratching screaming deals there.
You never knew what you were going to run across when you walked in
Sad
I wish Jeana the best

Such a bummer. I went by last Friday with a fist full of money to buy a new classic for my collection
