Default Anyone Know Anything About Mad Pig Customs?

They've got a "worked over" Marlin 45-70 lever gun that sure looks interesting. I grabbed the pictures and specs off of Costa's FB page.

I had to stop following them on Instagram because it made me want to spend a lot of money on customizing my levers.

I have done a few shorten/perm jobs on lever guns to get them as short as possible like that.
Makes them point real nice.

I feel your pain. I mean, I had no earthly idea that I NEEDED a 45-70 lever gun until I saw the posting.

I did most of that same metal work and installation of new parts for a Calgunner.
The gun came out real nice and he said it's much more confortable to shoot with the brake.
Maybe he will be along to post a picture of it.

Interesting take on a lever gun.... make it look like an AR15 and more "tacticool".

Doesn't float my boat, but if it gets youngsters into the game, I'm all for it.

Free-floats the barrel (I assume) and makes it possible to hold properly. Better ventilation keeps the barrel cooler.

Free-floated barrels and better ventilation are always a nice thing, but I might point out that folks have been holding lever guns "properly" for over a hundred years.

Maybe. But with a good handguard you can hold it without touching the barrel.

Seems like taking a nice rifle and making it
a piece of junk but maybe there is something there I am overlooking.

While you might not be TOUCHING the barrel, you are most certainly LOADING the barrel with whatever force you apply to the handguard when the handguard is attached to the barrel.

I’m in the middle on the aesthetics, not my thing but I don’t have the intense hatred. Thought about doing a hand guard on mine but since you still can’t attach a bipod (or you can, but it’s not great for your rifle) and I don’t want a light it was sorta useless. There are so many more proven companies that do custom marlin levers that I would go to first like the arms room or grizzly customs that are well established and have a track record for quality that I don’t see what mad pig’s differentiator is. And for winchesters you have all the cas guys similarly.

There are plenty of guys on this forum who’d be happy to do a similar project, for better prices and quicker delivery. They just don’t have cool ig pages.

Very true.

However, I don't think barrel loading on a lever gun is a large factor at the ranges it is used for. Shooting off the bench? Sure. Shooting off-hand at 100 or 200 yards? Not really an issue, relative to everything else that's going on when shooting off-hand. After all - they are lever guns, not Highpower or Benchrest rifles.

It's a .45-70 as well, so I don't care what you do to it, you'll be aiming about 5 feet high at 300 yards. I can nail anything game-sized within 200 with my Henry just like it came out of the box... so I just can't really see what this all does other than add some kind of cool factor if you're into it I guess.

I'm a Space Cowboy.... bet you weren't ready for that!

Costa put out a video a while back…

I bet it’s a fun gun to play around with.

Usage? Truck gun, ranch rifle…maybe fill the role similar to Cooper’s scout?

( …and the flamewar begins… )

I just got a little interested because I saw that Hornady makes a 410 gr subsonic load, and that Mad Pig has a threaded muzzle. I also saw a video of it with a silencer on it. It should be pretty quiet having a closed action.

The ballistic calculator on Hornady's site shows it has about 150% the energy at 500 yards that a 9mm has at the muzzle. You only have to come up 75 moa.

What is that, a video game? Never seen it, never played it, don't have it. The last video game I played with any regularity was Solitaire, and that was circa 2000.

The handguard may not appeal to everyone, but some of us traditionally minded do like long forearms.

I dunno about that. European, blond with nice figure sounds good to me.

Even better if she has double set triggers.
