Default Personal handgun lessons in Orange/L.A County?

I've been shooting since I was about 10 (33 now) but consider myself a casual shooter. My goal is to shoot a handgun better, especially the Glock (I have a gen 3 g26). I'm not looking to take a class and am more interested in a 1/2-1 hour private session at an indoor range. I frequent Insight in Artesia often. I will provide my own handgun and ammo. Any suggestions?

Possibly Sharpshooter Torrance..? btw I added a LaserMax guide rod spring/laser to my G26 and it made the world of difference. My girlfriend insists that’s her gun now. With the laser added it’s easier for her to practice fundamentals without hyper focusing on the sights. The LaserMax is pricey but works well For the G26 considering there is no rail to mount a light/laser combo. I think Streamlight makes a laser too but it attaches to the trigger guard and the LaserMax is totally internal.

I second OC Indoor range. You also get 1 month free membership with a lesson so you can go back and sharpen your skills.

I highly suggest joining a competitive shooting organization such as IDPA or USPSA over private lessons.

International Tactical Training Seminars (ITTS) does private instruction. Not an indoor range. They have private bays at Angeles. High quality firearms training.

Good idea once the basics are solid.
The problem is, self-teaching also reinforces bad habits.
I'd be a much better guitarist and shooter had I started and stuck with regular lessons instead of taking one here and there when I felt I needed help. Half of the time with the instructor was spent un-learning bad habits.

^^^ This.

Also, dry fire *must* be confirmed in live fire. It's a great tool *if* you know how to use it. Otherwise, you can easily get sloppy with the grip and sights in order to beat the par times, only to learn that you aren't even close in live fire. Dry fire is a way to reinforce what you're doing, good or bad. It's the "bad reinforcement" that is a serious problem.

Thanks everyone! I've had a few people pm me offering to help me out which is awesome. I'll also check out some of the places mentioned in this thread.

Btw I do alot of dry firing already but am not sure if I'm doing it correctly. I do the dime on the front site trick and practice while sitting down.

I can recommend Direct Action Group / TFTT. They have a tactical pistol level I & II coming up next month May 11/12 up at Burro Canyon.

Competitive shooting by itself does not teach you anything in regards to fundamentals. It puts your current skills to test under time pressure.

And that's why one joins so that they can learn from others and eventually progress. I have rarely seen anyone who actually learns and retains anything useful from any sort of general structured class.

Until you are taught how to safely and CORRECTLY draw from a holster and manipulate your weapon to the point that they are muscle memory, you should not be in a competition combining dynamic movement and stress.

...
So, in your view a person can't learn and retain from a general structured class where one gets personal attention but one will learn and retain just by watching people shoot in competition.

Seems contradictory to me. Not to mention no one really is going to analyze his shooting at a competition as people are there to compete and focus on their own stuff, not teach.
