Default HELP! 1N09 Shooting Area

Greetings All. As a representative of Cal.Guns/CGSSA, I have been contacted by the Front Country Ranger District in San Bernardino (Big Bear) to develop a partnership directly with that station to establish a range maintenance and clean-up program to assure that 1N09 remains open to shooters.

As the establishment and maintenance of legal open shooting areas is of paramount importance to all of us with Cal.Guns/CGSSA, I told the ranger that I would help find people from Cal.Guns near(er) to 1N09 to help manage the area.

If you can help.... or know someone who can... please PM me with information. I will then put you in direct connection with the Ranger.

I really hope that we can show the Rangers what CalGuns is all about. I know we have done informal clean ups out there from time to time, but not for many years now. THIS is our chance to make a difference. If we can't take personal care of this area, we WILL lose it. And we will have only ourselves to blame.

Thank you for your help and advice.

CAL.BAR count me in. I’m actually in Moreno Valley, but frequent Redlands/Forest Falls regularly. I’m available for a cleanup, meet up with the rangers or any other way I can help keep shooting areas open.

Great! Get me all your contact information and let me get that to the rangers in the area. Not sure what they are up to right now with Covid, but we want to let them know we are proactive.

OP---

I've been visiting this area since the 1970s, and I've seen the trash accumulate over the past few decades. Same old story different location.

I'd be happy to participate in any future cleanups there. However, I'd refrain from publicly posting the location, as the riff-faff cant pack it out crowd will ensure a future closure.

State fire closures end in a month I believe. Please update us.

Just checking back in on this thread. I have put our messages to one of our members whom we'd like to use as the area captain for 1n09 as well as to the District Ranger. I will report back here on the thread. Those still willing and able to help at a clean up, patrol, maintenance or other aspects, please feel free to PM me.

It's heartening to read that others are doing their part to clear up the mess. The closure has not stopped people from shooting, and the mess is out of control.

I'm new to the area, and wonder how long has the area been closed to shooting? I made the assumption that it was recent due to fire danger, but now I guess it's been a few years?

Was there ever any luck in organizing a cleanup with the rangers? I'd be interested in working on this, but not sure how receptive they might be so long after the closure. Anyone have contact with them?

It's so sad that there are so many in this world who won't take responsibility for themselves.

Yes, I am in contact with the rangers and they are well aware of our desire to step up and work on this area. They are waiting until spring thaw (and loosening of Covid restrictions) in order start a clean up and work on the area.
