Default CaPRC RIMFIRE Match at Angeles EAGLE'S NEST - November 2, 2014

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce that our next Tactical Precision Rimfire match will be Sunday November 2nd at the Angeles Ranges.
For details about the Angeles Ranges, see their website: http://www.angelesranges.com

Signups start at 8:30am and shooting should start at 9am.

This month we will be shooting on the private Eagle's Nest range D. From the main parking lot, take the road on the left, go past the Gun/Reloading store, past the shotgun range and turn right after fort angeles. Head up the steep hill to the Eagles Nest. Range D is the 4th range which will be back down the hill past range C. Park in the downhill dirt parking area (not on the range) and walk back up to range D.

Please arrive no later than 8:30am to complete your waivers, sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers. Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly. Please note that we will be in the sun all match (no overhead cover) unless people can coordinate to bring shade covers, bring fluids to drink and sunscreen. Also, the entire range is dirt, be sure to bring a shooting mat, moving blanket, or other ground cover if you don't want to lay in the dirt all day.

Match fee is $10 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
We will finish by 1-2pm but we have the range for the day so a BBQ and practice session is also possible.

Bring 100 rounds of ammo minimum, suggest 150-200 rounds as you will have time to confirm your zero.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 100yds.
Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised positions.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rimfire rifles in .22 lr caliber only.
No Hyper velocity ammo, match grade target ammo recommended.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed. Observers are welcome!
Line helpers are always needed! If you are planning on attending to just watch and not shoot, please volunteer to be a line helper. Duties may include: Helping stapling and placing targets, keeping score, and spotting. Its a great way to get up and close to the action and see whats its all about.

Line helper RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
CaPRC Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
Non-Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.

If you are going to shoot the match, please RSVP here:

Is that Steve's head in the overhead shot?

You'll need an extra magazine or two and a scope that you can adjust with your fingers. A Mildot or other multi dot reticle will also help. A sling, a bipod, maybe a backpack to use as a forward rest for stages that don't let you use the bipod. Match ammo and good zeroes at 10 yds, 25 yds, 50 yds, 100 yds, and maybe 200 yards. A rear bag will help, also.

From the CPRC website it says:

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rimfire rifles in .22 lr caliber only.
No Hyper velocity ammo, match grade target ammo recommended.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed. Observers are welcome!

I'm really tied up until after Nov 8th but I'd love to make this match.

Yes, that's Steven. He didn't have a .22LR so I loaned him my rifle. He shot really well that day too.

I don't think you do. I say sign up for the match and bring whatever you have.

Too many beginners get caught up in equipment. They think they can't shoot a match unless they have some kind of custom, high-dollar rifle with an uber scope.

The most common rifles at our rimfire matches are the Savage:

and the 10/22:

A few of the guys have the CZ:

And I think two of us have an Anschutz:

And I think I've seen one or two Marlin bolts and several 795s.

All of these rifles shoot perfectly fine.

If by "tactical equipment" you mean stuff like clothing and knee/elbow pads and speed reload mag pouches, buy them if you want them. But I don't think you need them to shoot a match. Here's a video of me shooting one of the rimfire matches with my hispeed Navy SEAL Rambo tactical voodoo clothing:

Just bring what you have. You must have a hat, sunglasses and ear plugs. Just add some sunscreen to that and you're good.

I'm not saying equipment doesn't matter. Oh it matters all right. But it doesn't matter enough to prevent a beginner from participating. This is true for all matches, but it's especially true for our rimfire matches, which are oriented around fun and introducing new shooters to the club and match shooting.

Don't let equipment or lack of equipment stop you from participating.

It's hard to say. They used to be once a month, but that was changed due to low turn-out of participants.

If my memory serves, the November rimfire match will be the only rimfire match for 2014.

Are these matches similar to the ones at APTS a few years back? I might have to break out the SK ammo and 10-22 again!
