Default Arex Rex Zero 1S

Sig clone anyone? MSRP of $600 makes me think I'll get a Sig.

I'm weird because that actually looks better than a Sign esthetically.

I definitely like the Sig/HK hybrid look. The frame and control function is similar to the Sig, yet the slide is somewhat like a USP Slide with a front cocking serration. The magazine release is similar to CZ 75. And the dual function slide stop/decocker reminds me of the P9s. The manual safety is appealing to some people as well. If this gun has a good trigger, I think it would be a great gun. Hell, all guns are pretty great regardless !

Default Arex Rex Zero 1 Un-boxing

I was very lucky to be able to pick this gun up.

It is very well built. The only thing I do not like about it is the plastic grips. I will be ordering the Hogue Mascus grips.

Here are some pics of the un-boxing: Sorry...need to edit pictures. For some reason, they are coming in upside down.

Was it the cost of a SIG after paying the Off-Roster premium?

Nice pistol! I enjoyed the MAC tests with it.

Nope, still much cheaper than a Sig, especially if you compare it to the Legion. Haven't taken it to range, but am confident it will not disappoint.

Idk why you're not at the range yet. I'm expecting pix, vids, and a full range report. Don't forget to get a vid of you shooting it gangsta style otherwise your review is incomplete.

Hogue G10 grips came in. I think it makes the gun look and definitely feel much better!

Default Arex Rex zero 1

Hello fellow calgunners,

I recently was lucky enough to purchase a Arex rex zero 1. I am currently on my waiting period. I'm curious if anyone else has experience with this pistol. I would like to know your thoughts and experiences. I'm not sure if I have every seen one for sale on calguns.

Thanks,

John

Can’t give you my experiences. Don’t have any with an Arex. But it seems like a cool gun. I have seen them come up before, but not frequently. You should do a range report. Take pics, let us know how it shoots... likes and dislikes. Maybe compare it to another gun for reference. I’d be curious how the trigger stacks up against a Sig 226.
Good pick up OP. Let us know how you like it.

I've put a few rounds through one. Nothing extensive. The double action trigger pull is long and heavy. Single action trigger pull is pretty good. I like the idea of having a safety and a decocker. Theoretically, you could carry cocked and locked and avoid that heavy DA trigger pull.

I just visited the AREX website and it looks like they may have changed the stock grips. The original grips on the standard pistol were crap. Very wide and very smooth. I have medium sized hands and the thing was a monster to get a good grip on. I subsequently shot it with Hogue grips. Much better. A little thinner and more grippy. That's about all I can say. I never shot it enough to form any longstanding opinion about its accuracy potential.

I like that too. I prefer manual safeties, but having both is win/win.

I agree. Having options is nice. The one I purchased does have the hogue grips with night sights. I like sigs but I ride the slide release with my thumb and the slide usually doesn't lock open after the last round. I am glad on the Arex the decocker lever is the slide release.

Well I finally got my Rex Zero 1s out of jail. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I figured I throw up a few pictures for those interested.

I am CZ fan and I am used to CZ Pistolsas many calgunners are. So I will be comparing a lot of features to a CZ pistol. Let's say to a stock SP01. I have a shadow 2 as well but that's not a good comparison in my eyes.

The Rex Zero 1 has a noticeably bigger grip than the CZ. But I don't forsee it being an issue. Mind you I have small hands. I can still reach the trigger in double action just fine. I have aftermarket G10 grips on the gun which are better looking than the stock plastic grips.

The trigger is noticeable heavier than a stock SP01 in single and double action modes. The single action trigger on the Rex is more crisp though. A big plus is that I do not pinch my finger behind the trigger on the Rex because it has more space between the trigger and the frame. This Rex has 440 rounds through it from the previous owner, so we will see if the trigger will get better over time.

The sights are three dot night sights that work just fine for me and will be better than the painted 3 dot sights.

I will note the LCI barely sticks up when a round is chambered and does not interfere with the sights. Which is good because I am not a fan of LCIs.

Overall the fit and finish seems good in the pistol. Not many machining marks if any to be seen. Having many CZ pistols I am used to crude machining marks on pistols, which don't bother me as long as the gun functions fine.

I will try to give more details about how the pistol shoots once I take it out. Thanks for reading.

I ended up shooting the arex a few days ago.

I liked it. Overall a good shooter. The only thing I don't like about it is how big the grip is. Not incredibly bulky but my hands are small so for me its difficult to manipulate the controls. The group on the target was shot at 7 yards. 20 rounds. It took me a few shots to get the trigger down.

I put 100 rounds of 115 grain federal with no problems.
