Nothing prohibits rifle type, though most use a bolt rifle.

I guess I misunderstood the original post. Seemed that a semi-auto or bolt gun was mandatory. Glad that's not the case.
Thanks |

You can shoot a semi-auto or bolt gun (there are no restrictions there) with a suitable caliber/projectile combo. All firing is single load (load one round, shoot one round).

2019 - Coalinga Long Range Wind Reading / Shooting Clinic
Guys it is about 15 minute from Harris Ranch..
Relatively inexpensive and yummy stakes.. As a member of Folsom and Coalinga (but zero relationship to this thread) Coalinga is a very special place.... super low key.. I just can not wrap my brain around why 100 yard ranges are packed with high $$ rifles and this didn’t fill up in seconds. Great opportunity, cheap *** price.. PS.. this range played a big roll in the spin-up of the post 911 war.. a lot of big names trained here — I’ve seen this personally.. Sign up and have a good time.. they even have shade now.. And usually these events are on Sunday. Many people like to have Sunday to be with family, religious services, a day break before work on Monday, etc..

It looks like there are only 8 spots left. The NorCal Long Range clinic always sells out in 20 minutes (or less). Perhaps scheduling a class the day before Easter created conflicts, as it did for me. Hopefully we get some after-action reviews.

Worked out for me and a few others I suppose as we were able to get all our ducks in a row and enter last minute.
I also have done the long range clinic at Sac Valley a couple of years ago. 600y only though. Sounds like same group? Many hotels in the area around $50-60 a night for those still on the fence. |

This event was awesome! As a total noob to long range, the coaches got me on target and even hitting the X ring when I could put it all together yesterday. I really appreciated the different points of view and practical tips from the different coaches, they knew I was green and didn't try to overload me with information. The California Grizzly shooting team members were really helpful in keeping the target pits running as smooth as possible, so a big thanks to them as well.
Coming from Sonoma County, Coalinga is quite a drive for me but it was more than worth it. The winds were fairly light but with a lot of variability so we were forced to adapt to constantly changing conditions, like second to second at times, so I was learning the wind/scope adjustment differences of literally .1 mil and seeing the effects at range. The facilities at the Coalinga range are simple but completely adequate to the task of providing a great day of shooting, and I will be back next year for sure. Definitely coming down the day before and camping though, leaving my house at 1:30 am is for the birds. |

Thank you Navyair, Killshot44 and the rest of the Coalinga Rifle Club for another great clinic. My friends and I have been doing the wind reading clinic for a few years now (Sac and Coalinga) and each year we have a great time talking with our coaches and learning something new about reading the mirage and flags. The Coalinga Rifle Club puts on a great event every year and if anyone who attended an Intro LR clinic should definitely attend the LR Wind reading Clinic if you want to have an opportunity to expand your LR skillset. Even if you don't have any long range shooting experience but always wanted to try it out with your new rifle you should attend. All of the coaches know their stuff and will almost certainly help you hit the X ring at 1K. Also a big shout out to the California Grizzlies for running the line and the pits, these young shooters did a great job. The tri-tip and beans for lunch was also delicious. This was an all around great event and we are glad we found time to make it out again for another year.
