Default Sling studs in a 10/22 stock

My kid and I are setting up his 10/22 for an upcoming Appleseed event. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on where we should put the front sling swivel stud? I’m seeing pics online of both in front of, and behind the barrel band up front. I figure up front of the barrel band gets you a little more hand room in there, but may be a weaker point of installation. Any pointers?

Before selecting your location, you might want to consider whether you will use the barrel band or not.
Some 10/22s shoot better with the band, some without.
You probably want to try it both ways first before deciding on a set-up.

Ended up going behind the barrel band. Plenty of room to still get your hand up in there.

A Little late to the party, but there are also replacement Barrel bands with the sling mounts built in.
