Default Toyota dealer

Anyone in the greater San Diego area have a good line on a Toyota dealer? Need a sienna minivan but would very much like to avoid paying the unnecessary dealer markup fee.

Good luck with that, the markups are ridiculous right now, I managed to purchase a new car just before the markups began so I lucked out.

Call around and inquire - most will have markups but there are still a few dealerships out there that will take MSRP with no markups. YMMV.

Try a car buying service through a bank like SDCCU. I am doing this. However supply chain issues are still messing up availability for new cars.

Go to Utah, there are Toyota dealers that sell at sticker price.
My brother in law bought a 4runner, no haggling.

Consider area sales taxes. 10% at Mile of Cars in National City. 8.25% here in Carlsbad.

Contact the fleet sales office and get a price. Also work internet deals, I got my Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited for $300 over dealer cost.

That's the second issue; even if you sign a contract for an agreed price - supply may be weeks/months out until the car arrives at the dealership lot.

i just checked the Costco site....it's interesting, there are many more dealers listed for 2022 as compared to 2023 models.

Toyota is listed in the 2022 list but not noted in the 2023 list?

I think Longo shows that they won't sell over MSRP but they're in El Monte. If the price and availability is right, I'd think it's worth the drive for you from San Diego.

Use AAA or CostCo's pricing program. You get to work with the fleet manager and not the regular sales monkey. Price on a Tacoma is $500 over dealer invoice. Not sure about the minivan.

The AAA dealers used to be Toyota of El Cajon, or Lemon Grove. No idea if that is still the case though.

You can see dealer costs on Edmunds.com.

Good luck...and may the odds be ever in your favor!

A coworker ordered a Tacoma from Toyota Chula Vista a few months ago. He just picked it up this week. He said he went with them because they weren't charging a mark up. Might be worth giving them a call

DO NOT GO out of California to buy your vehicle! You will regret it! You will get hammered in tax, and fees. A2

They base your tax on your address not the dealers. You pay whatever the tax is in the county/city it's registered at.

Why Longo can always sell a little cheaper - Dominic Longo was a hood here in SoCal his Chicago hood buddy in FL Jim Moran had the distribution rights for all Toyotas in the south east and talked Longo into opening a dealership.
Longo cut a deal that he would never pay the national advertising fee. That saves the dealer at least $6-700 per car. I suspect the deal is still in place since Penske hasn't stuck his name on the door in the nearly 40 years he's owned the place.

They are, that is one of the places the wife and I looked at when purchasing a car not too long ago.

If you're willing to drive north, Toyota 101 in Redwood City is also not charging over MSRP for new cars...

Whatever you do, dont go to a Ford dealer. They are charging insane markups and will refuse to sell you a vehicle without a bunch of add ons like "paint protection".

There's a lot of truth to this statement. My brother-in-law was shopping around for a Ford Maverick, found some dealers that would sell at MSRP only to try to gouge him on all the "extra" protections that he would never use. Luckily, I work in the dealership industry and told him to walk away as quick as he can.

I was at El Cajon Honda today and was amazed at the lack of inventory. Less than 10 new vehicles. I hope you find what you are looking for OP.

I bought my vehicle at Toyota Chula Vista. I noticed their little add-on fees were less than the other dealerships in town. They also weren't charging more than MSRP. I got mine back in September 2021; but, I'm not sure of the current status.

After shopping here in San Diego, I've bought two Toyotas from dealers in Orange County. All the dealers in San Diego are ridiculous.

I got my Rav4 hybrid at Longo, really satisfied with their service, paid MSRP. They are also the a large volume dealer so Toyota will give them more alocations meaning if you are on a waitlist it may not take long. I had to wait about 1.5 months.

Paying the current prices for a new car is like being bent over and boned without lube.

I didn't think ti could get any worse, but then OP says it's a Toyota minivan. Ouch.

Lol.

I had to trade in my WRX when our "oops" baby came along. I was bound and determined to avoid the minivan. I was successful at that and ended up with a 4runner. If I had to do it again, I'd get a minivan and I'd drive that fricken thing with authority! I feel like I missed out on a part of life having not ever owned one.

Good luck OP!

I love it, avg 46 mpg it has I believe a 10 gal tank I avg about 500 miles per fill up.

Cons would be you can't really tow much 1500lbs. Also the cat takes some time getting used to.

It's very versatile, fits my lifestyle really well.

We went to Toyota Irvine to get the wife's Rav in the color she wanted. Paid exactly MSRP which seems insane but is what it is.

Also Dodge dealers, SL Dodge literally had most if not all their inventory with a markup, especially their Chargers and Challengers, 15k markup over MSRP if I recall.

I was at Sunnyvale last Sunday and the lot was pretty bare. They had maybe a dozen cars available. That is where I got my Rav4 in 2017 and actually got it 3K below MSRP , but that was 5 years ago. If they have it they will deal.

just prior to Plandemic Lockdowns (actually about up to yr into all that) all you were hearing is about "global over-capacity" in auto-making and all these production gluts.

But I'm smug at having brought Prius Prime when gas was cheap and they were 'giving them away'.

Rather than get reemed on NEW minivan, consider old beater full size American passenger van. IMO everyone should have a full size beater van as backup and SHTF. Its a Storage Unit you can park on the street and thus 'steal' real estate. Only downside is they are prime targets for cat theft due to high ground clearance.
