As for the road to SBRGC, I've always wanted to drive my nice car on the road and then maybe hit up SBRGC, but the last mile and a half are crap.

Drove out there last week and the road has been smoothed out. It’s still not amazing but definitely better then it was. Hopefully that road can stay maintained but it seems like that’s just wishful thinking. Lol

I have driven my bagged magnum and my old lowered kia optima to SBRGC. It's not that bad of a dirt road to drive. It has been graded in the past couple weeks

Ya, I used to drive my Lexus down that road, I just had to drive slow.

I sold it and bought a silverado so I now I can drive much faster in 4 wheel high haha

Just remember it is residential and the speed limit is 15mph.

No need for 4 wheel drive on a dirt road.

Even in the rain it's an easy drive. Might be a few spots after the range and county maintained road that 4WD may be needed

The speed limit is not 15mph on Marron Valley Rd. heading towards SBRGC. The residents put those 15mph signs up because of the dust. Those are not County signs. The speed limit is 35mph.

I've made two trips to BBM recently. The main road past the gun club was being graded while I was there. The unimproved roads where I shoot had several deep ruts no doubt caused by people with big trucks that like to spin mud. It mars up the landscape and I've spoken about this here before. Guys, please give it time to dry out some before you go

I knew it had to be higher then 15mph. The border patrol trucks haul some tail thru there every time I come.

Maybe if there is enough dust the locals will want a paved road again? Jk....just wishful thinking.

Personally I don’t go over 30 thru there as I don’t want to replace struts and shocks on my rides but at that speed the road feels smoother.

South Bay Rod & Gun is $125 for the YEAR. That’s a good deal if you ask me. That’s one night out...actually less in my case. Just added my son (17yrs old) for $25 for the year too!

ONLY bad part about the club is the last 2 miles to get there are slow and a bit rough. That road needs a good raking.
Completely random, but does anyone have a timeframe of when the gate was damaged?

Drove by pink gate today and it was closed for shooting. Don't know if it's temporary or for the rest of the year.

Usually closed until fire season is over. Usually around Nov or Dec when the rains come. If it doesn't rain...it won't open back up.

I'm surprised it stayed open this long, though the extra rainfall helped a bit.

I was out there last weekend, was suprised it was still open with all the dry grass on the hillside. I guess it's time to bite the bullet and pay up for SBRG.

I always thought steel targets were okay on BLM. Is this something new?

I thought so also. Now steel core ammo. That IS forbidden I believe.

Maybe someone will chime in and give us a definite answer.

"Target shooters may not use incendiary, exploding, tracer, steel core, steel jacketed or armor piercing ammunition. Steel targets are not recommended – hot bullet fragments, exploding targets and metal from recreational shooting can spark a wildland fire. Hunters actively engaged in the legal pursuit and take of game and non-game species must have a valid California hunting license and abide by California laws and regulations."

i've shot steel targets at pink gate and the other "spots" further down with no issues for years. i do know that steel targets and inexperience were the cause of several recent fires, so it may be a new rule. i witnessed a family shooting a steel target setup on the grass at pink gate and they didn't know how to put it out, so they just left it, causing a brushfire. but for the last 7 years i've been shooting at BLM, it was always with my steel targets and border patrol and the fire detectives never said anything about it.

Not a new rule. I've been there at Pink Gate for the better of 4 or 5 years and it has ALWAYS been forbidden to shoot steel core ammo for exactly that reason. I know for a fact that steel core ammo against a steel target causes sparks and small flames which are what ignite the dry brush and field grass.

Steel targets aren't the problem. It's steel core ammo and steel targets. Also, according to 2 of the rangers I've spoken with over time (Funk and one other), many of the rocks out there are flint.

I use paper targets (Shoot-n-C) pasted to democrat roadside campaign signs.

Kills two birds with one stone.

Used steel targets a couple weeks ago but then again where we were was all sand and dirt. I couldn't imagine a BLM officer telling us that it was a fire hazard where we were.

San Diego target shooting areas are open . Please clean up when you are there to help keep them open .
If you want to volunteer for future clean up events
Go to www.sdmust.org to sign up
We should be having a link gate clean up in May or June ( if the fire restrictions are still at stage 1)

Went out to my favorite spot at Broke Back Mountain today. Gods country and then we make the turn. Shot for two hours and then picked up the place. Two brake rotors and an old truck tire. The place looked much better when we left. Who would think that leaving their crap out there is ok to do?

Pink gate has not been hit by the border32 fire yet. Fire is about 4 miles east of border patrol checkpoint currently.

Still closed.

They didn't lift the fire restrictions last year until Nov 17th.

Few more weeks to go probably.
