Super dry, no rain in the forecast. It will be next year before any more BLM land is opened, maybe we will get a month or two...

We will need two or more storms to get an opening. Maybe by March? It will be shut down by April. We got one month two years ago. We got 7 inches of rain in April but they still shut it down early. It's not the rain, it's political.

Do any of the areas need cleanup? I don't know where any of the places are, so meeting up with somebody to show me the spots would be nice. I have a 4wd half-ton that could be put to good use.

The desert always needs some clean up and is open for shooting

Look up SD Mike on Facebook or Instagram, he organizes shooting area clean up's

BLM areas may by closed, but people are still shooting by pink gate.

Just the other week i was out with a friend driving the trails and some asshats shot right over the top of us while we were sitting and taking a break from driving the trails

I've tried to call the local BLM Office in Palm Springs and the line is always busy. Does anyone know how to get ahold of someone in that office 760-833-7100? The line is continually busy. The Pink Gate should be open, however a committee needs to meet and approve, probably next week. Try calling the state BLM office 916-978-4600 about our local office and about target shooting. The local office at the very least should respond to phone calls.

Just a reminder....regardless of what BLM land you shoot on. Clay pigeons are not bio degradable in dry climate and remain an eyesore for many years. Leaving them behind is considered trash to many shooters and anti 2nd amendment types. Let's not give them another reason to try and shut down our limited open areas. Take out more than you brought in and no clay pigeons please.

Clays are the least of the problem. Appliances and trash are worse.

I agree. Jimi Jah. But those are the obvious and egregious cases. Many shooters believe clay pigeons are fine because they say Biodegradable on them. I've hauled couches, water heaters, washing machines, old propane tanks, etc. But only a few of them over the years. Pigeons are a never ending eyesore and last for many, many, years in the desert.

Recreational target shooting is allowed unless there is a Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch for the area. Pretty sure this is still the case in San Diego.

Cal Fire sets the rules for BLM shooting. We are in a drought with no rain is sight. It's likely to remain closed unless we get a few inches of rain.

I think shooting at pink gate is good to go since I don't see any restrictions on the calfire map

Have seen plenty cars these Sunday at pinkgate, and bunch of people coming back after sheriff stopped by. Anybody know details?

Fire Closure signs are still in place, on popular places.

There's a number of problems here.

1) I refuse to use Facebook and Instagram due to their repeated offenses of occasion of privacy. I have been Facebook-free for over 2 years and have no plans to stop now. Does SD Mike have an email I could send him a message at.

2) I'm new to SD and don't know where pink gate is. I've tried looking at Google Maps, but that was unsuccessful. I also drove to Ranger station in Alpine only to find the gate closed. No amount of sad looking puppy dog eyes convinced them to let me in.

3) That guy needs a remedial firearms safety course so he could be reminded of why he shouldn't do that.

I am the director of SDMust .
If you want to get added to our email list for clean ups
Send me your email .

We have a clean up planned for January 31, 2021 from 8-12
Probably at link gate or another local spot .
We already have our members doing some tidying up at pink gate , On a weekly basis to try to keep the trash to a minimum .

BLM land is open for target shooting.

Has anyone gone out to the Dulzura area to shoot? I’m still a little confused about if there’s still a red flag warning in that area or not.

Thanks

I'd say check with the forestry service but also apply for all your permits you might need like campfire permit and camping ect

I went out to pink gate a few days ago it’s open and there’s people shooting, lot of BP activity and they didn’t even acknowledge our presence... but be very mindful that it is grassy and it’s still very very dry

Posting the locations on a public forum always leads to too many people going and leaving trash behind.
Please share the locations via Private Message or by attending the cleanups.
Almost all of my favorite shooting spots from growing up have been permanently closed because people brought junk out there and shot it up and left it.

I went to Pink Gate last week and filled a trash bag after I was done shooting of other people's trash left behind. At least someone left a ton of LC 5.56 brass.

So I know it's a busy spot. How does that work with the other shooters? The ones that didn't come for the cleanup?

Hey guys, just curious what BLM land everyone shoots on? I typically go to Split Mountain Road only bc I can shoot out to about 500 yards. If anyone is interested in shooting, PM me.

I havent shot on public land, but I've gone to Southbay Rod and Gun and they are a pretty decent facility. $30 a visit or $125 a year kind of sucks, but it's a well managed place with a lot of options for shooting.

Default San Diego BLM now open for target shooting !

Nice new gate. Glad they replaced it in a timely manner. Saw it a week ago and it looked like someone ran thru the gate. Gate was all torn up.

South Bay Rod & Gun is $125 for the YEAR. That’s a good deal if you ask me. That’s one night out...actually less in my case. Just added my son (17yrs old) for $25 for the year too!

ONLY bad part about the club is the last 2 miles to get there are slow and a bit rough. That road needs a good raking.

I saw someone shooting at the gate. It's legal now?

As for the road to SBRGC, I've always wanted to drive my nice car on the road and then maybe hit up SBRGC, but the last mile and a half are crap.
