You bRing your own steel. I believe the target have to be 42 inches high. I have used static angled steel and swinging ones. You have to set them up at 100 yards on the upper pistol range if you are going to shoot rifles .
If I am wrong , someone will likely chime in.

SBRGC will allow steel on pistol range 2. you can shoot pistol ammo or pistol caliber rifles starting at 25yds. if you are bringing a long pistol caliber rifle, i'd set it up farther out for the higher velocity you're shooting. you can setup the steel at rifle range 3 at 100yds if you want to shoot rifles at it. you can also setup 25yds out for pistol calibers on that range.

there have been times where i've shot steel at pistol range 1. it really depends on the RSO, but these are the official rules on paper. been shooting steel at SBRGC for years since before it was officially allowed.

SD sheriff maps show that area around Valley Center to be off-limits for target shooting.

Jimi Jah,

You and I must be looking at different areas, or I am misinterpreting something. There is no shooting allowed in the Palomar Mountain area, North of the 76. I am interested in a different area.

Because of the Fire Restrictions there really aren't any outdoor space available for casual plinking, but I would like to scout some areas for next season.

According to the new restrictions issued October 15, we might have to wait until Dec 31. There is a clause that says it may get lifted early, but I’m not going to hold my breath for that, even if the county is underwater

So far we are way above normal rainfall for this time of year. Excuses will need to be creative.

They'll just say the excessive rain has created lots of new growth brush that can be a fire hazard. Just you wait.

Wow, that was earlier than expected!

Could someone please PM me if you know of a good spot on BLM land that is accessible, but not in BFE?
I don't own a truck or a 4x4, but I don't mind a good hike. I'm also from North County if that helps.

I am respectful, will pack out more than I pack in and most importantly: won't spill the beans!

All of SD county is open for recreational target shooting .
I will he planning some clean ups for late January /early February .

This weekend we already had a clean up planned for Painted Gorge In Imperial.
Got the call from Blm about the lowering of fire restrictions .
The plan is to have at least a few small clean ups each month it is open ,and a couple bigger ones as we get close to summer before it’s closed for fire season.

I could always use more volunteers to help keep this land open.

With three kids, it's difficult for me to find even a couple of hours of free time, but I'd like to help out if I can work it out. I'll be watching this thread for updates on dates and times.

Default It took a lot of hard work to keep it open

There was a lot of behind the scenes and public actions that kept this land open .
SDCGO had direct contact with the BLM and several local officials, and showed them proof that there are organizations and volunteers helping to keep it clean and safe .
Because SDMust has been organizing cleanups and working with the BLM to keep it clean ,It was easier to convince the BLM and Calfire to side with us.
SDMust also filed an official ADA complaint in DC, which if the BLM would have sided with the county, would have led to several lawsuits and the the county would have had to spend 100’s of thousands if not millions to resolve.

SBRGC stepped up at the meetings and supported keeping the public land that borders their property open. The closure could have threatened the gun club as well if the county had its way.
The CRPA showed up at the last 2 meetings when the county voted ,and also threatened lawsuits .

In the end , it was a group effort anchored on the clean ups and education provided by a local nonprofit, volunteers, and responsible shooters.

So make sure you clean up after yourselves out there . If you need information or guidance ,I will try to help as well.

Howdy all, new to the site. So I’ve recently purchased a Rem 700 and AK but can’t find anywhere to shoot. I’ve traveled the world as military contractor so I’m not used to CA laws. Sucks that I have guns I can’t use because I can’t find any outdoor long distance ranges to get my new guns dialed in. Buddy told me about BLM land which is new to me so I found these forums.

I’ve heard a lot about Pink Gate. I’m interested in going to shoot and learning the SoCal/BLM rules. Also to access BLM land, do I need a 4x4?

I’d also like to mention that I live in Lakeside and rent a house on some land that my landlord also lives on and runs a metal fabrication shop that does everything from make signs to building off road vehicles. I only mention this because I have a lot of metal that can be used for targets. I’ve notice people have been asking about targets. I also am willing to volunteer weekends to assist with clean ups.

Thanks. Mike

I heard people shoot at this location.

near Ocotillo Wells - 33°02'31.5"N 116°04'52.9"W
Can anyone confirm?
Also where is “Pink Gate” located? Thank you!
