Create a new email account

Go to edmunds.com

You can contact dealers via edmunds

Email all of them. Be specific in what you want. They will email you back.

Then change the zip code to Orange County or Tucson
Email all those dealers

It's the easiest way and it's in writing

PROBABLY GIVE THAT NUMBER TO DMV ETC.

OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE CRAP FLOODED WITH OFFERS FOR "EXTENDED WARRANTY" FOREVER.

ALSO, DON'T SIGN ANYTHING EXCEPT THE MAIN PURCHASE FORM. THEY WILL TRY TO SNEAK IN EXTRA "DEALER PREP" OR "SECURITY ENGRAVING" THAT IS ALREADY PART OF CAR'S PRICE ON OTHER FORMS.

HAVE "TOYOTA COMPLAINT LINE" ON SPEED DIAL AND LET THEM KNOW IT.

HAVE YOUR WINGMAN ON THE LINE TO TOYOTA CORP REGIONAL OR WHATEVER.

You pay the same tax when you register a vehicle bought out of Kali as you do if purchased in Kali. Doc fees are variable, dealer dependent.

Ordered my 2021 Ram 1500 through a dealer in Wash state because, through a popular 1500 forum, the dealer advertised employee price - 1K. Emailed dealer a file with truck build/options (from Ram website) and asked for quote. The quote, with incentives, was approx 12.5K below MSRP. Their doc fees were $150 verified up front. Dealer locked in price and incentives. Truck arrived 2 months later. Flew up ($120) and drove home, then registered at DMV where I paid the sales tax.

Sent the quote above to 9 SOCAL dealers to see if they could match or come close. Several accused me of fabricating the quote, stating no dealer would offer this price. SOCAL dealers generally behave as if MSRP is a bargain.

They have an advantage of not paying the national advertising fee so that puts about $700 extra in their pocket - that you never see.
The hood Longo set up the deal when his hood buddy Moran who owned Toyota Southeast (that covered distribution to 5 states) set him up as a dealer. As long as the current owner Roger Penske doesn't change the name the deal stays in place.
If you buy out of state make sure the under hood smog label says 50 state emission or CA emissions - otherwise you can't register it here as a new car. You'll also lose the out of state registration (unless you have it shipped to you).
There are a bunch of rules so check the DMV site before you buy.
You won't save on tax since CA will charge you the difference of what you paid and what the tax is where you live.

Just want to update in case anyone else is in the market for something.

I reached out to Longo, not a good experience, salesman was beyond rude and not the most enthusiastic.

Found Hamer Toyota at the North end of Los Angeles. They were (not sure if they still are) charging a markup but when I dropped the “it’s our first Toyota” they gave us a bunch of discounts that cancelled it out. Other cool thing they didn’t have a lot of the non negotiable dealer add ons that we came across (mandatory window tinting at some SD dealers for example).

Paid our local sales tax, not LA, so that coupled with the discounts we found what we needed at a price that was semi reasonable.

Follow up, find your own financing, toyota was charging 10% (at the time) interest with *good credit
