Default Need a dovetail cut in a barrel, stockton

I have a ruger SP101 that has a fixed front and rear sight, it has never shot straight. I want a dovetail cut in so I can adjust the windage with the front sight. The gunsmith I used to use in stockton has evidently gone out of business and Genneco K gunworks is really hard to get ahold of. Anyone know of a central valley gunsmith that does actual gunsmithing that is still open?

Hi,

Do you have the sight already or what brand is it?

Thanks

Can ruger convert it to an adjustable sight model?

How far left or right do you hit?

Single action or double action?

Is it finger placement or is the sight that far over?

I have not figured out the sight yet, I have some random front sights that are pretty low, I am familiar with experimenting with dovetailed sights on various other firearms. I was thinking maybe a low profile 1911 tritium sight would do the job, but I haven't gotten this figured out quite yet.

As far as left or right, I haven't shot it in a long time actually, it used to be my dad's and I traded him another gun for it, but I remember I never liked it all that much just because of the fact that it always shot off to 1 side, single and doule action by about 3-4 inches at 15 yards.

I want to keep the fixed rear sight and just get a dovetail front sight that can be adjusted for windage. I really actually like the fixed rear.

as far as which sight? idk yet, maybe something like this?

I think the elevation was pretty good where it was at so I would need to get the elevation on the current front sight measured and ask some manufacturers of the height of their front sights. Like I said, this isnt my first time messing with front sights, I have freehand cut a dovetail with a file in the past on an old .22 I got for free that didnt have sights, And I converted the sight picture of my henry .44mag big boy to a USGI peep sight picture, with quite a bit of work involved on my end. I just don't want to take a file to the barrel of this revolver.

Sure, you just need to swap out the frame and the barrel.
It will be cheaper to swap the complete gun.

Send it back to Ruger? Why is this your problem to solve when Ruger has a effectively a lifetime warranty? (It's not a warranty legally speaking, but it has that effect). They don't care about whether you're the first purchaser or not.

The cylinder and yoke would be specific to a frame/barrel too.
The grip frame might be different so the grips might not interchange.
Maybe the grip screw and cylinder release button is reusable?

I really don't want to convert to fully adjustable sights, even if that were an option. For anyone with customer service experience with ruger: Is this something they would actually fix? I would be happy with that.

If it is currently in production, or out of production and still supported by Ruger, that is the way to go. Call them, tell them your issues, and get an RMA number and they will send a shipping voucher to you. All you have to do is box it up and send it.

If the barrel is actually crooked to the frame and that's the cause of the bullets impacting to the side of where you expect, they would most likely fix that.

Shots impacting to the left and right is often a grip and trigger control problem.
If the bullets are impacting to the side of where you expect because of how you are shooting the gun, I know they can not fix that.
