Time is money. I'll still pay. Cheaper than the alternative.

I sold out of PMags in early October.
People are still ordering them, I have over 500 on back order right now.
Word I have received from my distributor is January.
I will be filling orders in the order they were received.

It takes time to take the magazines apart. Anything I do that takes time I am charging for. I no longer assemble stripped lowers for free either. I have too much work, I actually ahve so much that I have been using vacation time to take time off from my job to try and get caught up.
If changing some of my prices means less work for me, thats something I can life with right now.
In the past month I have sold over 400 ARs. Majority of them, people want the lower assembled. Even at 30 minutes each, thats a long time.

I don't mean for this to sound *****y or anything. Just stating whats going on

I think there might be a few laws against that? LOL

Hey Pete, do you have any word on if they are going to continue making 20 rounders or are they dropping that and just doing 30's?

I made a bunch of chopped 30's to 10's and they look great.

Hope you can enjoy some time off. Have a great holiday season.

This is a great write-up on "how to build 10/30" pmags. However, how does the average guy without pre-ban magazines (to buy replacement parts for) go about acquiring all of the items necessary to create these 10/30 pmags? It seems to me that the only people able to create these mags would be FFL licensed to sell to LEO. Please clarify if you have any input.

There is nothing illegal about importing a "magazine rebuild kit". If you buy a 30 round magazine that is disassembled it can be legally shipped into California. There are dealers that will disassemble the magazine for you prior to shipping. If you use that magazine as replacement parts for a pre-ban 30 rounder, and you don't end up with more 30 rounders than you started with, that is legal. Alternately, you can put that disassembled 30 rounder back together but in a 10 round capacity and that is legal as well.

One more question, is it legal for me to go out of state, purchase complete mags, disassemble them prior to coming back to california, then reassembling them in 10/30 configuration when I get home? Also, who are a few of the vendors that sell disassembled magazines to california? thanks for the quick reply.

Bump as I'm interested in the answer to this as well. My gut feeling is that if you take it apart before crossing the state lines you should be ok. But interested in others opinions.

On a different note, I also read over at ar15.com that Magpul is upping their production and will be pumping out about twice as many mags next month as they are now, and increasing it even further in Feb and March. So the mag shortage should be short lived and the prices should return back to normal.

Aloha River, Owner of evilblackrifles.com (and the guy responsible for this thread), 44mag.com (44mag.com charges a small fee to convert mags into rebuild kits) and a member of calguns by the name of LAK supply will ship rebuild kits into California, however, they, along with the rest of the country are on back order until at least the middle to the end of January and the backorder list extends all the way up until summer of '09!!! Yup, the Obama frenzy is getting the best of us gun owners. Regular 30 round AR mags can also be converted into 10/30 round mags and vendors should be getting those in stock before the Magpul Pmags. So, if you want some sooner, look into the regular aluminum body AR mags. I believe all of the above vendors have those as well. They too are on back order, but nowhere near as long a wait list as the Pmags. I myself have a couple on backorder with evilblackrifles.com. I ordered a couple before the frenzy and got them in quick. Ive been kicking myself ever sense for not ordering more when he had a surplus of them. Now, I wait in line with everyone else.

EDIT: NEVER! EVER use these kits to build Hi-Cap mags for 2 reasons, 1-you will go to prison and that is no bueno. And 2-you will ruin it for the rest of us when they try to pass a law against shipping in rebuild kits for us who use them to rebuild busted up old prebans and convert rebuild kits into perfectly legal and cool looking 10/30 mags.

If you already own some old aluminum 30 rounders from before the ban, can you buy some Pmags in Kit form (for parts) then replace everything in and on the old aluminums and throw away the old aluminum parts?

Essentially replacing your old ones with ALL new parts?

Hi Vinz, how did you reattach the floorplate on your Pmag 10rd conversion?
I can't tell from the pictures.
Nice work!
thanks, nick

You gotta dig for the pictures.

After you make the cut, just file the top of the ridge flat so the base plate will go back on. Look real close at the section on the left.

Petes picture of the 10/10 from a 20 conversion. Same procedure as a 10/10 from a 30.

I didn't realize the ribs on the body were the same width as the one that retains the floorplate.

Your welcome.

They are not truly identical but they are close enough to get the lower plate to ride on it.

Will this work on a Yugo magazine, or how can I MAKE it work?

I will be staking a Yugo BHO magazine so I get last round bolt hold open and fixing it with the cool mag lock I found earlier.

Anyone have any experience with these and will this mod work?

I know some have but you might want to start a fresh thread in another forum. Lets try to keep this pmag related.

I just received eight 30 round magazines to convert. Once you've made the conversion to 10 rounds how does the base reattach to the body of the magazine? I see where it goes just not how it connects. I must be missing something obvious. Thanks!

are you chopping the mags or are they still going to be the 30 round length?

I am going to keep them their original length. I spent some time looking at the Magpul website today and it appears that there is a piece that slides on and connects the body of the magazine to the lower piece that is affixed to the spring. Sound right? I am going to dig through the box I received the magazines in to make sure I didn't overlook something.

yes, there is a lock plate that connects to the spring then a base plate that slides on to the mag body. Here is a good picture thanks Marc...

I have several permanently modified 10/30 pmags. After reading some recent threads on the definition of permanency, I’ve decided that I’d feel safer converting my 10/30’s to 10 round mags. From an earlier thread someone stated that a cut down 30 gives you a 12 round mag.

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=116173

Is that with the stock 30 round follower? Is there another way I can cut my 30’s to 10’s?

Thanks for the heads up, they look great. The issue I have with your build is that you still have to use device to artificially limit the follower. I’d prefer to cut the mag down to only accept 10 rounds. With your setup one could remove/cut the limiter and add 1 or 2 more rounds.
