I've seen them stick in 3 types of shotguns: 1) over/under, 2) semi-auto and 3) pump.
The same guns using other brands like Federal & Remington never had a problem.
The observations were made over time, shooting skeet every week with the same guys and guns and we shoot a lot of shells.

I've experienced issues in semi & o/u with same Winchester Universal box. I refuse to buy those target loads

They give me trouble with one of my autos, but otherwise run fine in my O/U and pumps.

When both are available at every Walmart in the country for the exact same price , the Federals are simply put together better. That's all I buy now.

Winchester and Estate seems to be the flavors offered lately. Both work fine in my A5 except Univerals of course. And I am too cheap to buy AAs. Besides I have about 1500 AAs to reload anyway. Zero performance difference between SuperTargets and AAs.

The softer lead in the Super Targets could definitely affect performance if you’re not getting a lot of pellets on the target. If you use them, just make sure you make good hits.

Honestly I don't know the dynamics of hard lead versus soft lead. How is a more hardened lead better on brittle targets?

It’s less likely to deform, so it gives you a denser pattern, hits the clays harder, and breaks them more consistently. The primary benefit to harder lead is probably the denser pattern that allows no holes for the target to slip through, and more pellets on the target to break it (single pellets do sometimes go through even a brittle target without breaking it).

I’m not a physicist, and I have little desire to research that. I doubt if you’re interested in speculation. There’s plenty of information out there if you’re interested. I would start your search with something like “hard lead vs. soft lead in shotgun shells.”

it's less about velocity and more about tight patterns. harder shot will deform less, resulting in truer flight lines and overall tighter patterns.

for short distance clay shooting (skeet, 16 yard trap, etc) then the reality is that it really will not matter. However as you get into the longer distances good shooters will want a tight pattern -- the worry is not about the odd "magic BB hit", but about a hole in your pattern. In other words, your aim is true, but there is a large enough hole in the pattern that the clay escapes.

there is a reason why premium shells cost more. the major reason is the hardness of the shot. AA or STS shells have 4-5% antimony shot (antimony being the added alloy to make the shot harder). Wallmart bulk pack shells will have 1-2% antimony. On the reloading market, the cost difference between low antimony shot (approx $35) and high antimony shot ($50+) is significant.

** edit -- I agree with what folks are saying about Winchester vs Federal Bulk packs at walmart. Given that the two are both available, the same price, the federal is a better constructed shell.

I know Dick's is a sore subject, but when they have Remington Gun Clubs on sale, they're hard to beat for the price. Comparable in price with Wally's bulk and the hulls are worth a couple cents or some good will to a fellow shooter who reloads. The best cheap hull for reloading. I doubt they're making any money on them, so can take some solace in that. Just shower afterwards.

I reload 99% of my rounds, so never bought from Dick's, but even though I have somewhere near a lifetime supply of my preferred hulls, I can't resist picking up fresh Gun Club hulls and stashing them for others. I've started a few shotshell reloaders off with a bucket of greenies.
