Default Metcalf Range

How is this range these days?

I've not been there since about 1991, when I worked there.

While I prefer to support private ranges like LAR&G, it's nice to change it up from time to time.

I would not recommend
They do no up keep
Benches are horrible and target frames are so flimsy they move constantly

It’s been a year since I’ve been there but I always like going there and feel like they watch what everyone is doing very well, . I like Los Altos gun range better. I fear that the government will eventually close them. Also coyote valley sporting clays is close by and is awesome.

Empty. Time to go now before dems are in power again.

You only have 4 years left before it gets packed again.

Metcalf is great, no issues with upkeep or benches. Public range hours are better than LAR&G and admission for the day is lower. Don't get me wrong, I like going to LAR&G but not getting stuck behind a crawler on 35 or kids feeling car sick from the twisties are a plus.

I do recall that the rifle range is on flat ground though. One thing that drives me batty about LAGR is that the 50 yard benches are on a lateral slope and therefore I am always fighting that when sitting down.

I like Metcalf as well. It has a 200 yard rifle range, which neither LAR&GC nor Sunnyvale R&GC have.

It’s been awhile for me, but they have always been a decent place to shoot.

I like Metcalf. Saturday mornings are packed. Only thing I don’t like is the small check in office space. I love the 200 yards range.

Do they still have a silhouette club?

Just went to metcalf today to shoot my new featureless build and it was kind of packed not horribly. But there was a good amount of people in every section. $15 for all day sign me up for that.

I dont live in the bay area, but went there once in 2017 to find a different range to try with my friends, who aren't gun people, in the area. Went there early on a Thursday, and it was packed, and no parking. The silliest rule to me was no human shaped targets. Wasnt allowed to use my splatter targets because the have human shaped blue shadows on it.

Fwiw, at most ranges with a rule like that, you can just fold the 'head' down behind the target and still use it.

You must have gone in the throes of Obama-era. Now you can get a lane easily on Saturday morning.

The tide will turn in November 2024 if a Dem wins the big house.
