Default Mossberg patriot rifle. what do you think ?

Mossberg walnut patriot vortex combo (rifle deal)

Had been waiting for a nice wood stock 308 win rifle to come up for sale here for a while, in my area. But no bueno.

So looking at this deal, seems like a good fit, for a hunting gun for 100yds - 300yds max, with factory match loads.

Price seems good for this rifle, & scope of fair quality, for hunting, & a little bench shooting.

What is the brain trust thought on this, for intended purposes.

BTW, I've chosen wood, because I just like the lumber, over the black synthetic.

Not really looking to do big, or maybe any upgrades to this.

For hunting it works. Its what my wife uses in
308. Not at all submoa but it kills deer and pigs out to 300 without issue.

Sure, go for it. With decent ammo it can be a 1 MOA rifle. I see the Patriot in the category of, "inexpensive rifles that work". For hunting out to 300 yards, it certainly will do the job.

A buddy has one in .270 Win. He did put a different scope on it later on. He likes the rifle tho.

I bought one of these a few years ago, when they went on sale for $249 (synthetic). Maybe a 4moa gun out of the box, and I tried all kinds of bullet, powder, brass, and primer combinations. I pillar bedded it, and that got it just under 1moa with hand-loads.

I killed a pronghorn with it at just over 300 yards, and a friend used it to get his first mulie buck at around 200 yards. I ended up selling it on GB.
