Crappy gun. I suggest people don’t bother to bid. Save your money for something else, like a Rossi. Did I mention that this is a lousy rifle?

Notice the dings in the stock? Yikes. I highly recommend that folks wait until a nicer example comes along.

Don't worry guys, it won't be the deal of the century in 13 days and I've got it on my watch list! Not that I want it.

Yeah, very unlikely that the hammer price will be under $750 or so.

I’ll probably break down and toss a bid in just in case...

There used to be a Lock, Stock and Barrel on the corner of Las Tunas and San Gabriel in San Gabriel behind The Boat and Northwoods Inn. This was back in the early 70s, I wonder if its the same owner/s
Hmm, minor hijack here. Man, when you mentioned the Boat, damn, that is a place I have not been back to in a loooong time. Killer food and beer there. I remember the cheese bread(?). Wow. Still around?

Dang. I'd go for one of their 39A's, if they would ship to a California C&R/COE. Wonder why they won't. It's perfectly legal for CA to CA shipping of C&R isn't it?

Apples thanks for inducting me into the MLC.

Hopefully I can contribute something meaningful to the group.

Here's my guns. 2004 1894 CB .44 Spec/Mag and 2005 1895 CB .45-70 both got extensive TLC.

Mr. Buchanan, you are more than welcome, and you most certainly already have contributed to the general well-being of the MLC... first with your links to your post on Cast Bo0lits and again with your many posts on the topic of Marlin firearms. Please refer to the last page of the Marlin Quality Concerns thread? Thank you.

The MLC should have it's own version of Gun Fund Me.

I feel your pain, my good man.

It's not looking good for any of us.
After only 2 days (with 12 days+ left on the auction), it's up to $765.
I expect that I'll run out of gas way before the finish line on this one.

Hey is this a tube-mag only club? Or can my Savage 99 in .308 join?

Sweet, I knew you guys were all right!

My dream levergun is the BLR lightweight stainless breakdown in .308 or .325 WSM, but I don't have the coin just yet.

Someday...

Those Brownings seem to be the hot ticket these days. I think Apples has one, maybe not in 357 tho..

The listed of sold guns from LSB above are pretty far out of my price range, even the Marlin model 39s are a little high. I wonder what those prices would been like 3-4 years ago.

Thanks for all the information and tips regarding GB, I'm sure my wife will appreciate it too
I'm not a guy that can talk on the phone for very long. I'm sure Apples and Penn will agree. I prefer to make an arse of myself in person.

You are correct, my good man. It's a Browning B92 in .44 Magnum, made some time around 1979 - 1980... only safety is a partial-cock position of the hammer. Oddly enough for the quality of a Miroku, I had some ejector issues and mostly fixed the problem with a hard-t0-find part from Numrich.

This is a 20" blued carbine with the steel buttplate that I'm now loading .44 Mag brass to .44-40 ballistics using a 205-gr coated LRNFP to 1100 fps.

I'd love a .357 variant but I cain't schwing the $1400 - 1500 that the one we're all watching will fetch... if it doesn't sell for even higher.

There are some crazy guys on YouTube that take a similar gun in .410 and shoot just about anything they can through it, it was a pretty good video. I think one of the guys passed away a few years back.
This is one of those guns that holds it value. It was about $60.00 in the early 70s and is probably worth about $60.00 now

im A bit envious of your ranch life horsewright- must be challenging and rewarding-

Yeah, I can’t stop - I haven’t even shot the last five things I’ve bought and keep browsing online....besides the auctions bobga told me (I want those little martinis) I’m looking at other sites and local shops...I wish money grew on trees.

On a good note, I should finally be able to hit the range with all the stuff I bought over covid break...

I'm going to divert attention back to me for a minute ME ME ME!!!

...This antique marlin I picked up recently... stamped 25-20 on underside of barrel, 25-20 chambers smooth and easy and I fired one. And it blew the shoulder forward quite a bit. What might it have been rechambered to at some point over the last 120 years? Still 25 caliber, and the body of the brass is the same, just shoulder pushed forward and almost like a weatherby shoulder instead of sharp or long taper.

I'll do a photo once I get home later today.

Can you do a chamber cast in order to measure and examine the nature of the existing chamber? The fired shell may be good enough for that though.

Yea, I can do some measurements on it later. A bit more research and I'm fairly confident it's 25-20 Improved/255 Dean, or it could be 256 Winchester Magnum. Seems that a fair number of them were recut to the 256, which is iffy because of the big pressure differences. But the one black and white photo I saw of the 25-20 Improved the shoulder looks the same.

Fire formed brass on the photo on the left.

More research tonight!

Had a last-minute get-away to a local public shooting range this morning in San Francisquito Canyon called A Place To Shoot. Took my Marlin Texan in .30-30, a .357 Marlin 1894 and a .44 B92 along with some handloads.

I met BOBGBA out there and we made a morning of it. He got to break in his new-to-him, 2003-made .357 Marlin 1894! and it's a shooter! He was hittin' up the hill on a 100 [Edit: Correction: 125 yard plate] repeatedly with .38 +P and .357. I think he's pretty happy with it!

My .30-30 handloads using a lighter bullet (125 grain Sierra sjhp) and 30.4 grains Varget (2.2 cc Lee dipper equivalent) made consistent hits on 100 yards with virtually no recoil. It's a pretty nice plinkin' load that would get after some varmints, too.

Why do we not have a "like" button on this forum?

Rev, I agree!!

And on a related note:

Finally hit the range after a several month hiatus. A coworker had just picked up a CZ compact and even the gf wanted to go; it was also time to put some rounds thru some new additions.

1. Smith 57: only put 17 rounds of Hornady custom through it, but managed 11/12 hits on a 6” shoot n c target at 15yds.

2. .41 mag 10” off the Contender: just three rounds to test fire and it shot high, but put all three into a nice little group. This one’s definitely going to get some handloads and silhouette comps under its belt.

3. Smith 340: first five rounds were 110 .357, followed by 158gr....

My hand still hurts and it’s honestly more or a bear to shoot than a standard sized .44mag with factory 240gr loads. Even some .38 130 and some +p gold dots hurt...

It did come with some wood altamont boot grips; the rear is pretty much flat and I think the grips had much to do with discomfort.

Time for some alternative grips for this one...

And lastly and what you’ve probably been waiting for:

4. 1952 marlin 39a.

This was a supreme joy to shoot!
Butter smooth, accurate, and left me with a big smile. Golfish and the rest of you guys were right...

Now, who can recommend a nice peep sight for it?

Pics to follow...

What might it have been rechambered to at some point over the last 120 years? Still 25 caliber, and the body of the brass is the same, just shoulder pushed forward and almost like a weatherby shoulder instead of sharp or long taper.

I'll do a photo once I get home later today.
.250-3000 Savage
25-06 Rem
Both have tapered cases (I think)

I wanna go back right now! but cannot for another week at least. Gonna have a heavy honey-do list to tackle immediately after Memorial Day, and the weather is gonna be a little warm. Weatherman showed us a map of the High that will sit over the soutwest that will be blocked from moving by a Low on either side. He called it an "Omega block". We'll see. At least I can build ammo in the evenings!

Nah, I'm pretty confident it is 25-20 Improved. The fire formed brass looks identical, is the same exact length as regular 25-20, and those two are both WAY too long for it.

I'm almost convinced to send Hornady 3 pieces of fire formed brass and have them make me some custom dies for it, and just go with it from there. Should be easy to work up a load with.

And, because I think I forgot to put photos, here's some terrible probably too small phone pics to look at.
