Does anybody know where I can do a live scan? I had my appointment set up for the 18th and it got canceled the day before. Then I was told I could schedule for March 30, so I did and it was canceled yesterday. My investigator, Jeff, advised me to stick to the recommend livescan from the list. This is the last thing I have to do!

Yes, I have a Springfield hellcat. But keep in mind, the gun has be legally transferred to you. If you obtained guns out of state because you were a resident there, you have to submit a form to the cadoj and declare your weapons.

Go straight to the Sheriff's department website and submit your application. You'll get a pick of an interview date in within the next few weeks.

I applied on 3/19 and the original appt I chose was 5/15. It was the soonest one available. Yesterday I checked again and one opened up for 4/6, so I rescheduled for that. Just keep checking daily.

The least expensive is the one taught at Ben Clark $100. The others when I called around were in the $200 range. The list it's on the Riv Co Sheriff website if you want to do a more detailed search.

Some are over $200 and limit you to 3 firearms only.

I did mine at the Riverside Indoor Range (not Magnum), it was $100 and they allowed 6 firearms.

I enjoyed the class, a couple of the staff are retired RSO Deputies from the CCW unit.
That was cool because they addressed some of the BS/FUD information that circulates.

Be advised that if you bring 6 firearms, you will probably be the last to qualify.
It wasn't a problem, they just want to clear out the folks with 1 or 2 first.

Do you qualify at their facility or do you have to go to a range in the area for the qualification part?

Thanks

Yikes, COVID is probably slowing them down quite a bit. They've expanded their CCW yet again recently. Glad to see tons of people are applying.

I had my interview this morning over the phone. They sent me an email 20 minutes before my interview stating that it was going to be a phone interview. It went well and they will take my picture when I pick up my card. But all of that will have to wait until the office's open back up for livescan. So just so everyone knows RCSO is still interviewing but it is over the phone.

Did they give you a list of other places you can go for live scan?

The approved live scan locations were only at the sheriff offices. However, with the covid 19, per the email I received. “ After the telephone interview is completed, we will mail a live scan form upon request only. Until we resume those services, private institutions may have those services still available.”

you can go to any location now, unless that has changed.

Oh we can? I thought it had to be off an approved list but that makes it easier.

I did mine at a third party location, applied through PD though. Price jumped up pretty quick $118 at one of those all in one stops, notary, auto reg, phone cards for Mexico oh and livescan services too.

Once they find out it's for CCW they charge individually for the service itself + each type of background check. CA, FBI, Firearms (DOJ)

He told me to use one from the approved list and that they are all most likely closed for now but to keep trying to make an appointment. They are all RCSO offices.

This is from Jan 2019. It may be different now, but here’s the picture again.

Lol anyone I’ve ever talked to including my instructor and fellow range qualifiers yesterday about this says all they do is go over the application info with you. Interview is a sham formality

We went over the application and he gave me a couple of pointers to amend on my good cause. It took about 20 minutes. It was non stressful and he was very helpful.

Hey guys,

I just had my interview. My investigator sent me an email this morning advising that he would call me around the time that the appointment was scheduled for or earlier. He also included a short list of items he wanted to review with me. He called me about three hours early and explained how the process is going with the changes with covid. Overall, it was more of a conversation then an interview. He reviewed my application with the question that I answered. He asked the questions again and stated my good cause. We talked about a few simple edits to the good cause, but said my reason was great and he liked how well written it was.

So the nexts steps, he told me that I could get the live scan completed via a 3rd party place, but it would be an increase cost vs their $10.00. He also said that currently Sacramento is not processing live scan requests, so going thru a third party might not speed up the process as it would be sitting and waiting. He also said that part of the live scan process is that the DOJ is to sent them a letter once the background is clear and they are able to track it on their end via their system. If for some reason this letter doesn’t get sent, I would need to complete the live scan again. He told me it was my choice, but highly suggested that I wait to complete it at a sheriff station when they open up again.

Hope this helps anyone in the process!

For those that have already done Live Scan; how long does the Firearms check usually take?

I am taking my class and qual this Saturday. Since everything seems to be a little iffy right now as far as live scan and maybe a hold on interviews as this plays out, My question is.

How long is the class and qualification good for? Does have a timed expiration?

Thanks

If memory serves me correctly the class and qualification is good for 6 months. I would imagine that there will be exceptions right now and they would extend that.

Having said that I’m sure someone knows for sure.

I did my class n qual on Monday and just to be safe I uploaded copies of the score sheet and the certificate itself to my CCW application folder. I also texted PDFs of both to my background investigator. May not help but it certainly cant hurt.

My live scan was complete in under 24 hours. I did another livescan last month for my Coe/ffl03 and that one took 3 days.

I don't have any legal issues that would come up other than gun purchases.
