Thumbs up new member opinion

Just joined today...went looking for BP, almost missed it. All I shoot are muzzle loaders so a dedicated space would be appreciated.

I have an unfired 1859 Pedersoli Sharps carbine in the for sale section if you are interested.

Considering that most of calguns is preoccupied with buying more guns than they shoot, figuring out where they can get their keylock handguard hydro dipped to match their plate carrier, arguing about Travis Haley's trigger discipline, and looking cool while shooting a target 5 feet away with a rifle it's not a surprise that the blackpowder area is a bit lacking compared to another (more specific) board.

By all means, stick around and peruse the 2A forums on occasion though.

Anyone here shoot BPCR sillouette? They have a match every first Saturday in Ione at Sac valley range.
I just picked up a pedersole Boss in 45-2 7/8"..45-110, going to shoot paper patch as always up for a challenge.
I have a few pounds of BP which seems to be the hardest thing to get around Sacramento area. Most places want you to buy a case and for people like me on a fixed income that is a lot of money to lay out at one time.
If there is anyone else in Sacramento area that is interested in BPCR silhouette and needs some powder and would like to split cost on a case let me know. I am sticking with Fg for the cartridge I have and most places will mix a case.
Let me know if your interested.

All my blackpowder firearms are cartridge loaded. Would be nice to have a separate forum.

I can see where a black powder forum could be useful and I can see where it could be a pain in the ***. Firstly, the topic includes two centuries of original firearms and a century of clones of these. The sub topics alone are diverse enough to overlap into other forums and cause mischief: muzzleloading, cartride handguns, cartridge rifles, CAS, long-range competition rifles, collecting. ie: I want to use 3031 bulk powder to develop a load for my original Remington .44-77 roling block. This subject could be categorized several ways.

I say let's try it and see what happens -

Long range target, Thor and other conicals, blackhorn, traditional Hawken builds, the fact that the average muzzle loader front sight bead will cover an elephant's *** at 50 yards, out of state regs, patch n ball... draws... barrels, in lines... Let's get it going. Lots of ideas for front stuffers.

I use muzzleloadingforum.com when I discuss/look for information on muzzle loading. You must join to see the threads but it does not cost anything. While I support the effort of breaking off and having a separate forum, I am not sure how active it will be here on CG compared to other designated sites like the one I posted.

It so hard to find threads for BP in the forums, how about instead of just Black powder have a Muzzle loaders Forum and a cartridge forum, I think that would make everyone happy...

wasn't thinking straight here..
OK
Black powder forum with all related sub forums....

I'll add my voice for a separate BP forum.

1) Should it be within Curios and Relics when the growing market for BP is for new weapons? An original BP rifle is the in the $2500 range, and new weapons are from $150-1000 range. What will people most likely buy? With a separate forum, older weapons (true C&R and Antique) can still be discussed. Why not.

2) With a separate forum, there is even room for sub-sections--new and old flintlock and percussion.

3) A separate forum is also useful because the reduced licencing and legality problems means these topics would not have to be discussed--much. Legality wouldnt be dominating as in other forums, so finding useful shooter information and discussion would be easier.

4) People like me always liked BP but never got into it because of the expense and trouble. But this has changed now with the advent of lower cost, new weapons and im shopping right now for my first one.

5) It doesnt help to go to another BP forum located in another state because, for example right now, not all new muzzleloading ammo is legal in CA, like Powerbelts, so discussions about them in Kansas would confuse a CA shooter. Ammo discussion was the reason I came to the forum today--where would someone like me expect to find it?

6) Funny thing is, when I came today i thought there WAS a BP forum. I couldnt remember that there wasnt one. Hilarious.

7) Things have changed dramatically in the past five years in terms of weapons, ammo and gear. No longer is it general discussion about Revolutionary War days. There is very much, very specific info now, just look how Youtube is filling up.

I like Lyman, thats a great rifle, but im new and i think a CVA Wolf is more my style for the moment. Also, I want to buy a Traditions Blunderbuss kit. Im ready to buy the CVA when I can settle what ammo is legal in CA. Hickok45 was given a new Lyman and his video about it is interesting.

There are a lot of different areas that C&R can be split up into. Right now the original forum has been taken over by Milsurp's. Black powder only would be great. But... unfortunately the sysop's of Calguns don't read these posts, or they just don't give a damm....

You can list them in one of these two places.
1. On this forum under Collectors Exchange, or
2. The Market Place under hand guns.
But not both at same time. I would start in the Market Place first,
if no results try the other.
Good luck.

I would even volunteer to become a moderator even though I don’t know exactly what the job requirements would be. I have never moderated before. But I think a black powder forum would be awesome.

Black powder flintlock and cap and ball need to be stand alone as this is a completely different species of shooters. Anything with a cartridge even if loaded with black powder need to stay with modern weapons. Between 1865 and 1870 they started converting and that should be the general break line for any division. Maybe a sub section for black powder cartridge guns for technical knowledge. Most people into these weapons are more history buffs than those looking to shoot Glocks, Sigs and semi auto pistol and rifles. Just my opinion.

Has anyone who has authority to make this happen even read this thread?

A few seconds typing a answer would not be that hard would it.

Just come in and type yes/no.

Yes.
It's been a long while since I've done much. Percussion mostly.
Reading some of the CA bp rules and regs leads me to realize I'm missing out on our last, least regulated hobby that lobs things at targets by a black powder explosion.
Design'm, make'm and choot'm.
What's not to like?
