Looking to purchase a PCP air rifle
So far the Sig Virtus in .22 has caught my eye. Plinking, maybe some ground squirrels. Haven't done much research other than visiting various sites. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

^^Thanks for the links. They were informative and a good "heads up". Given the pricing I see for it versus those of other PCPs, I was wasn't expecting a one ragged hole at 50 yards producer. The appeal is the semi-auto function.

I think the most helpful part would be to know your budget. A .22 PCP air rifle can go from $250 – 2,000+ and that's BEFORE you add a scope! Of course you do typically get what you pay for. That $2,000 rifle would probably do a single hole group at 50 yards. If your budget is $500–1,000, you're in a sweet spot for a lot of very good rifles.

I have a Sheridan blue streak upgraded and now it is too loud
I would identify what you need and work to find a gun to fit the specs There is a u tube hunter who does gear reviews. He gets a lot of kills as he shoots at distance and with a suppressor / silencer/ muffler. Lack of noise does not spook the targets.

Yes. Aftermarket parts/modifications/accessories are probably the most plentiful of any PCP platform and knowledge/support on the various airgun forums is most abundant.

Less popular. The Umarex Gauntlet seems to have taken its place as the top selling PCP. Those sub-$300 PCPs are a pretty good deal.

Yes. But here is a much cheaper contender, that comes with an externally adjustable pressure regulator: https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Air_V...fle/5136#10278

just a head up, optics planet is selling the benjamin recharge compressor for $1299, which is about $400 less than most places.
needing a compressor is the reason i have not gotten into the pcp game, and not wanting to find places to fill tanks. i almost jumped on the deal. |

When I looked into this a couple of years back I contacted the local weld supply shop. They'd sell me the tank for about $200. Fills were about $17 for nitrogen. But talking with dealers and Sig they advised against using nitrogen. Sig never said why but a dealer said that it would dry out the o-rings. So looks like compressed air. Also, thank for all of the information.

A hand pump is $200. Depending on the pump, your max fill pressure will be 3,000 psi to 4,000 psi. Compressors are $700 and up, and those should fill any PCP on the market.
I use the Benjamin hand pump for my Marauder. It’s fine for my purposes. If you get the Virtus PCP and see yourself wanting to take more than 150 shots in a session, the compressor would be a better bet. |

The atmosphere is about 80% nitrogen. Not sure why inert nitrogen would harm the guns as some fill tires with it
There are chinese PCP compressors. Don’t know how long they will last. — It looks like nitrogen is sold in the beverage industry as a low pressure system. 2200 psi is not low pressure but Nitrogen tanks look like they are typically 2200 psi. To low for PCP A friend got a 45 cal -pcp - it’s a blast My suggestion was scuba tanks Cheap and most places can fill to 3300-3500 psi In 5 years they need a hydro test https://www.divers-supply.com/faber-fx-steel-tanks.html He went with the lighter weight firefighter tank as they can go even higher pressure. For a.22, the bike pump is fine The.45 shooting 350 grain bullets really eats the air.

I have a Hatsan AT44 and love it! Got it from Pyramid Air.
https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Hatsa...en_Sights/2779 It's a heavy bish though. Put a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x on it. Surprisingly accurate.
